'80's-Style NEW WAVE/SYNTH POP SONG
Hey friends,
Working on submitting this song for the listing below: https://www.taxi.com/members/Gjdf7sdFR5 ... brilliance
Thanks for any and all feedback,
DK
_________________________________________________________________
ORIGINAL, '80's-Style NEW WAVE/SYNTH POP SONGS with Male or Female Vocals are needed by a very busy Music Library with a great track record of placements in Films and TV shows!
IMPORTANT: The Music Library's CEO told us that these Songs will ultimately be sent directly to TV Networks! In other words, lots of chances for syncs with these!
This Library is looking for Mid-to-Up-Tempo Songs that could fit on a playlist with the following references:
"Hungry Like the Wolf" by Duran Duran: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M6wVJOrxsfo
"Just Can't Get Enough" by Depeche Mode: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dddixPDWcp4
"Everybody Wants to Rule the World" by Tears for Fears: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2nNR4EsOgKE
"Blue Monday" by New Order: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iOEJHNZpeck
Please send top-notch New Wave/Synth Pop Songs with great melodies, unforgettable choruses, and solid rhythms. Your instrumentation should be generally similar to the references – think '80's analog synths, drum machines, etc. Please be sure that your production and any virtual instruments or samples you use sound era-authentic and high-quality. Expressive, well-performed vocals with era-appropriate deliveries are a must for this request, as well.
NOTE: While it is not an absolute requirement, the client would prefer to hear Songs that were actually recorded in the 1980s. If you're submitting newer recordings, your submissions should still be reminiscent of the music released during that period.
The client didn’t specify any lyric themes; however, lyrics that avoid references to specific names, dates, times, brands, and profanity are recommended as they’re easier to use. Do NOT copy the references in any way, shape, or form. Use them only as a guide for tempo, texture, and tone. Era-appropriate Broadcast Quality is needed.

Re: '80's-Style NEW WAVE/SYNTH POP SONG
Sounds 80s and the mix production come across as broadcast quality to my ears.
What I'm not getting is any sense of New Wave. I'm target audience having bought all of them on vinyl back in the day...and then again on CD a bit later on ! I've also seen them all played live ..this sounds very MOR Amercian 80's soft rock and not like New Wave at all to me.
From Wikipedia
Common characteristics of new wave music include a humorous or quirky pop approach, the use of electronic sounds, and a distinctive visual style featured in music videos and fashion.[22][3] In the early 1980s, virtually every new pop/rock act – and particularly those that featured synthesizers in their sound – were tagged as "new wave".[22] By the 2000s, critical consensus favored "new wave" to be an umbrella term that encompassed power pop, synth-pop, ska revival, and the softer strains of punk rock.
So props for nailing the era and writing a decent song but it's stylistacally off target IMHO.

Thanks for listening and for the critical feedback. I will work on this some more and try to get more of those new wave elements into the mix.
Thanks again,
Doug

Really appreciate your feedback on this, and will continue to tweak it with your suggestions. Thanks a lot! DougTelefunkin wrote: ↑Tue Dec 07, 2021 3:51 pmGreat work with that song Douglas, but I have to agree with Mark that it just misses the vibe of the ref tracks. Things that might have helped get closer include some bubbly synth arp in the background, a Simmons drum kit sound, and synth solo rather than guitar. Its success or otherwise might depend on whether the screener, and indeed the library, is specifically 'tuned in' to British 80s synth pop. Its possible they might be open to a more US interpretation, but rather than bank on that I think I would try and try and get a little closer because those refs are all in the same lane.
