A Check and a Question

Post by fusilierb » Mon Apr 20, 2009 11:19 am

I got an ASCAP check out the blue last week. Apparently a solo violin piece that I wrote a million years ago in college was performed twice somewhere, by somebody(s). And I got a little check for 56 bucks! Never got an ASCAP check before so its hanging in my studio for inspiration. So I called ASCAP wanting to find out the who's and where's about the performance and they couldn't find any info in their system. I thought this was really strange, seeing as how enough info was recorded somehow to cut a check.I'd really like to find out who played this. Does anyone have any ideas how I might be able to track this down?B

Congrats on the check!!You might try Goggleing the title of the piece to see if someone posted a concert announcement or program. It's a start!Just a thought.Mazz

imagine if John Williams and Trent Reznor met at Bernard Hermann's for lunch and Brian Eno was the head chef!

Congrats on the royalty check. Feels good huh?We had a similar situation this past year with a surprise check. BMI could not give any specifics on when or how the song was used either. All we can tell is India. Good luck in your quest!

It sure did feel good. Makes me want to make more of them appear!I tried Googling it, no luck, tried the publisher who sold the pieces, no luck. I'm on a mission to find this person...B

I just got my ASCAP stuff back together since I'm trying for these libraries. For over 12 years they had an old address and I didn't even know the "account" was still live. I change my address and get a check. I called the publisher in an attempt to track down who played this and he's sold 30 copies of this piece over the years. Wonder how many other 50 dollar checks I missed out on. B

Wow, Bryan, it warms my heart to read news like this...I mean the check you got, not the ones maybe you didn't. Ha ha. It all works in very mysterious ways. I get royalty checks for my dad's music still, even though he's been dead for 15 years. It comes from very strange places, for very strange things.Anyway, congrats!!!! Here's to many more!!!!!Georgie
