A "DaveWalton/Spariam" collaboration film clip

Let's do something positive here. I'm doing the film score to a film called "Hunter". Hunter is kind of a cross between Lord Of The Rings and Mad Max as much as a low-budget film can be. Spariam (Doug Sparling) is a recent poster and contributer here on the forum. Doug has a really cool niche with Irish music and Irish fusion.I was working on the opening theme to this film (which has an "ethnic" lean to it) and privately asked Doug if he would like to replace my pretend Irish flute with a real one. Graciously and after demanding a fee of $600,000... he agreed. Unfortunately this only uses about 1/100th of Doug's talents but here is the clip. By the way, Taxi's listings do translate into reality. I couldn't just do whatever the heck I wanted. The director had a cue sheet with "listing" info for each scene that was to have music (15 of them). My instructions for the opening scene: "Naive introduction of theme. Life is simple and happy with a Hobbit-like feel". Don't expect John Williams but you can expect James Galway. Hey, thanks for the comments and listening...and I've got to thank Dave for generously agreeing to my "fee" (though he didn't mention that I had to pay him $750,000 first for the all the kind words). Anyway, it's been a lot of fun working with Dave. Like him, I'm an ex-band guy, and these days I work alone out of my basement...um, I mean my home studio. So it's really nice to get to collaborate with another musician/composer, especially someone as talented as Dave.

A little end-note to this thread...I'm told the film won "Best Short Film" at its debut at a Canadian film festival this weekend. It was the River and Rails Film Festival in Smiths Falls Ontario. I'm sure the festival is nothing like Sundance but I was told that the festival had entries from around the world and was well attended. Maybe Vikki knows something about the festival, or maybe Smiths Falls or Ontario or if nothing else, Canada in general. It's "up nort", that's all I know. Supposedly there will be some press so I might post that if they say nice things about me. If there's anything that says "The film won in spite of the music" then I might just leave it alone. Dave

DaveShew! This clip prompted me to dig around your site. You have a tremendous sensitivity to your orchestrations - stuffed full of those lump in the throat harmonies and descants and all those techy terms that describing moving music.How is the instrumentation done - are all the strings, horns, woods, percussion digital? Can't be. You must have an orchestra stuck in the basement.Damn, I feel so humble with my three chord ditties.

Everything is done via virtual instruments. I have a single midi keyboard, a computer, and good studio monitors. I've been selective in my purchase of virtual instruments. I actually don't have a big collection but what I do have covers the basics (orchestral, synth, piano, bass, guitar, drums/percussion, ethnic) and is generally quality stuff.
