Hello fellow Taxi members. I've just joined about 2 weeks ago & have already submitted to my 1st listing (wish me luck Anyway, I wanted to say how honored I am to be part of a group of talent like this. I've been a musician for over 30 years, with some professional background but am constantly hungry for more. I want to create music that inspires people to do great things; whether it's an emotional R&B track, an aggressive street Hip/Hop track, or a very elaborate Orchestral Instrumental. Listening to several musicians over my life has made me respect the craft so much, which is why I will not put B.S. out. So with that being said; I'd be tickled if you guys would check out my first orchestral instrumental cue I've made. Now I've done covers of famous songs (Olympic Fanfare & Theme-John Williams), but never actually took the plunge of creating something from scratch. All the sounds are MIDI, using Propellerhead's Reason 8 Software. Please provide some feedback if you can; as if a submission opportunity for an Orchestral Instr pops up, I wanna think this would have a shot. Thank you and may 2016 be the year for us all!!!!!!!
Glad to have you on board. I'm sure you'll bring some excellent feedback to this forum and all of us fellow composers/arrangers/mixers etc.
I would say this: DUDE - you've got some skills for sure.
The composition is there, the feel, the emotion and the mix are all bang on.
Now you need to go out and get some excellent orchestral samples.
As it stands for the *majority* of listings - music supervisors will not be looking for midi demo pieces, no matter how good the composition is.
Supervisors, editors, marketing companies etc are looking specifically for finished, polished, broadcast quality tracks that sound like real orchestras (or whatever they are looking for)
that they can plunk directly into their projects.
A couple great companies/libraries to check out (as a start) - East West, Native Instruments, Garritan(possibly my new favorite because of it's low cost and yet SUPER high quality), Toontrack(this is more drum/piano/bass and mix specific but they've got some great products)
Wow, very good composing! You definitely have orchestral compositional skills. I agree with jnmorrision about the string samples. I use the ones in the Kontakt factory library (good for beds, etc), Session Strings, and some of the offerings from Cinesamples (Tina Guo Legato Cello, CineOrch).
Thank you guys. Realism is key for me; so I'll definitely take a closer look at your suggestions. Again this is my very 1st orchestral piece, so your feedback is invaluable. I think I could get the hang of creating "cues" and bumpers for trailers & the like. Again thanks!!
It is a great track, Eddie. Cinesamples is awesome if you're looking to upgrade. I use Vienna strings and have gotten some good results. Best of luck with your music and welcome to the forum!
Welcome Eddie! I agree with my peers, great compositional skills here! Orchestral listings are very hard to get forwards with because the screeners (and Taxi customers) have a very high bar for authenticity. I think musically this is perfect, but the sounds need to be more realistic. Maybe you can search the forums for Orchestral Forwards and listen to some of the tracks that have been forwarded?
