Thank you all so MUCH for listening to my music and for your great feedback. I really appreciate all the comments/encouragement/suggestions very much. Elser, not to worry - you didn't strike a nerve at all -- it's me -- my insecurities are showing! Dax, Vikki and Squid, thanks for the ideas about a voice coach - great idea, I'm going to check that out. Vikki and Squid, thanks for giving my voice tone a name -- I've never heard that before, and I definitely lack the technical side of music so it's nice to know that info. It's also really good to know that you all think I can get there vocally. On another note, I also had a consult with John Braheny and he gave me some good advice about my writing that really goes along with what you all are saying, too -- he advised me to write like someone else is singing the song - that what he hears in my songs are that they were written for my vocal range (very true). He generally gave good feedback for my songs, had lots of great ideas - and said he really liked Here (written for the AI contest last year) - but feels it needs to be bigger. I value his input and I great VALUE all of yours!!! Thank again to you all for taking the time to respond...it means the world to me. Tricia

Quote:Quote:singing at the top of my lungs, in my own house, and emulating someone I really wanted to sound like Perhaps it is semantics, but singing at the top of your lungs could be damaging for your voice. HI was really only addressing the confidence issue. Good technique of course is essential but coaching is also very expensive. If one can afford it then go for it, but alot of good singers and musicians have learned purely from listening to records. I was a music teacher at a rather infamous music school in Hollywood for 3 years, so I certainly don't disparage getting training, but listening and mimicing are also very useful tools.

Hey Tricia, Geo here welcome aboard, I liked your voice, keep at it, you got some good advice here so I won't muddy the waters trying to add my 2 cents, and besides I can't sing a lick . Not a country guy but liked "Cowboy and a Rope" and the first ballad on the list (Perfect)was very well done. Best of luck... Geo

Hi Tricia,I don't know if your intent is to pitch just your songs or yourself as an artist. I'll just comment on the overall impact of the material without getting to specific because the overall impact on the listener is what it's about, right? Your voice as well as your songs strikes an emotional chord in me, touched me or however you want to quantify it especially with "tell me why". I liked your music. Hope that helps. I think your in the ball park for what you want to do.

Hey Karyn, thanks so much for your comments - they are very much appreciated. I'm definitely only pitching my songs -- not looking to be an artist. I'm really glad you liked "Tell Me Why" - I was really drawing on personal experience in my own life with my husband and our babies (now 10 and 4) and going for something we don't hear often in songs about -- yeah marriage is hard, but if there's any love there, there is always hope. I see you've just joined the forums here, too -- I'm going to go out and listen to your music (BTW, love your picture, very pretty) -- thanks again for your sweet comments. It's a songwriters dream to hear that your song touched someone -- thanks for sharing that with me!Tricia

Tricia,Welcome. I am pretty new to the boards here too. Listened to HERE. Very nice. Liked the lyric quite a bit .. simple but it moved me. Well written. And your melody was good. Vox .. not perfect, but good enough to present the song very nicely. I'd have titled it: I'M HERE, but ...(For the AI contest you probably need something with a much BIGGER chorus .. think Whitney Houston. lol Win it next year.)DeanPS Guess you are not a honky-tonker, but if you know someone .. let me know. (Read my response to your comments in my Buble song thread if you don't get this.)PSS You related to a Riley Burnett?
