Abbey Road Crossing WebCam

Post by davekershaw » Wed Sep 29, 2010 5:00 am

Here's something to pass the time when you've a few minutes to spare: the Abbey Road Crossing WebCam.

You can watch people live, having fun and generally playing havock with the London traffic.
A constant stream of photo shots, it's the one crossing to avoid in London if you drive.

It's also the one crossing where most pedestrians don't want the traffic to stop for them
so they can get a clear road for that photo.

Can't complain though; I've done it myself! :D
Left my mark on the wall too. Unfortunately it's painted over every month.

Hey Dave,

What's great is that they finally upgraded the cameras because they used to be a very slow frame rate (like about 1 every 5 sec.) but now they're real time... Seems like whenever I watch it, it's about 3 am (London time) and all I see are the driver's on the way home after a night of pubbing.

That is really cool! I keep feeling as if they are going to crash into each other though because I am not used to seeing them drive on the left side.

If you turn your speakers up you can hear the cab and bus drivers swearing at the pedestrians! :D

Hi Chris.

Long time no see!

Yeah, those are the "no stopping" zone lines added to all zebra crossings since the album.

Looks a bit different eh?

The crossing's been moved slightly since the album, and the road signs have been put out of reach
as so many have been nicked! :D

Apparently Government officials want the crossing completely relocated to a safer area as there are now so many accidents there.
There was a pile up last year when fans gathered for the 40th anniversary of the photo.
