AI Voice For Demos, Thoughts?
Well here is a fun topic to discuss. With the crazy development of using AI voices to mimic artists, What are your thoughts on using it to leverage your demos? Males can write and record and swap their voices with a female, and visa versa. If you know you're pitching to an artist, they can hear the song in their own voice. I'd be curious to know everyone's thoughts on the topic. Even some lawyers could weigh in about the legality, i know RELEASING a song with another artist's voice is an absolute no no, but demos just for artist pitches, could be a game changer.

Is releasing a song in another artists voice a no-no? There are currently no laws that I am aware of that provide copyright or legal ownership of a voice. I'm sure it's just a matter of time though.
I think AI singing voices need to get better, but that too is only a matter of time. This stuff is progressing exponentially faster than previous advances in technology. Fun for sure!

I think the legal precedence could be the "likeness" lawsuits that stemmed from animation and video games.Paulie wrote: ↑Wed Apr 26, 2023 3:56 pmIs releasing a song in another artists voice a no-no? AFAIK, for demo just for artist pitches, there would be no legal problem since the master recording itself is not being released. However, it still could be a very bad idea as it might make the artist uncomfortable, someone recreating their voice with AI. And they could be concerned that the demo recording will get out there as recordings do. My gut tells me stay away from this.kregdurant wrote: ↑Wed Apr 26, 2023 11:13 amWell here is a fun topic to discuss. I agree Casey, this is like the deep fake video stuff. it's so crazy. what is real and what is not is getting really blurry. I know it would freak me out to hear me and know it's not!! hahahahahCasey H wrote: ↑Thu Apr 27, 2023 7:58 pmAFAIK, for demo just for artist pitches, there would be no legal problem since the master recording itself is not being released. Only opinion i needed to hear. I was definitely curious. I think theres still a use for it to switch between male and female vox for pitches, but I can absolutely see where imitating would make someone uncomfortable. Good looking out.Casey H wrote: ↑Thu Apr 27, 2023 7:58 pmAFAIK, for demo just for artist pitches, there would be no legal problem since the master recording itself is not being released. I think it will end up being fine once the quality is good enough and we are licensing voice models that are not imitations of famouse artists, they're just another option to get a vocal done like hiring a sessions singer.

i tried to change my rather scruffy male vocal into both "bruno mars" and "ariana grande" hiring someone on fiverr. neither of them worked. and even if it worked, i'm not sure if it''s a good idea to use a voice that sounds just like the artist you're pitching to, ai or not.

Based on what I've seen of videos with avatar voices speaking text, it's going to take awhile for speech to sound natural. I can tell it's a machine talking.
There are many nuances of feeling, texture and color in a human singing voice. AI can mimic that, but it can't 'feel' the emotion or deliver the words from the heart. I believe live music will become more popular as it is authentic and not made by robots.
