Alone With My Thoughts ©2016 Robert George BMI
Got a cabin on the riverside
Where I play my old guitar at night
Maybe I should move with the crowd
Where my songs would have to shout
Instead I’m alone with my thoughts
Where my spirit can’t be bought
I’m alone with my thoughts
Where I speak my mind
I have taken other folks’ advice
But I won’t make that mistake twice
How can I respect myself
On a road paved by someone else
So I’m alone with my thoughts
With hard lessons I’ve been taught
I’m alone with my thoughts
And my life is mine
Some say the only road we can trust
Is the one from dust to dust
But that’s way too grim
Life is swift but life is sweet
From the love we make and rhymes we meet
And rivers we swim
So I’ll strum the strings and let the notes
Drift off where the starlight floats
And the price of going my own way
Is the freedom I feel day to day
So I’m alone with my thoughts
Where my spirit can’t be bought
I’m alone with my thoughts
And my song is mine
Alone With My Thoughts
