An open letter to anyone thinking about joining Taxi

Post by Paulie » Wed Nov 11, 2015 12:09 am

Having finally decompressed after my first Taxi Road Rally I feel compelled to write this letter to anyone considering a Taxi membership.

“Do it.”

I joined 8 months ago after following the common path of reading online reviews (bad idea), then lurking in the forums (good idea) before pulling the trigger. The online reviews are largely useless because they lack context or perspective. As Michael said at the Rally during his opening remarks, “You can start with a dream, but you’ve got to be a doer.” Success doesn’t come to those who look for shortcuts or expect the path of least resistance. It comes to those that work their tails off.

Another Rally quote that struck a note with me was from Chuck Schlacter (or was it Dean Krippaehne? /jk), “The difference between where you are today and where you need to be depends on the people you meet and the books you read.” Taxi members are the people you want to be associated with if you want to be successful as a music creator. I have found amazing mentors, collaborators, and friends in the Taxi community, and these people have helped me elevate my game to an entirely new level in a very short amount of time.

In my 8 months I have written around 150 instrumental cues and have about a 25% forward rate. I recognize that success as a tv/film composer takes time, effort, patience, and the willingness to network and seek help from others. Taxi provides a platform for success, but it is ultimately up to each member to get it done.

I’ve been been a musician for 40 years, but my journey as a composer is less than a year old. If you want to write for film and television, if you want to pitch songs to major industry contacts, even if you want to be discovered as an artist, Taxi can help you.

Jason Blume summed it up in his keynote speech: “To be successful, put yourself in the right place.” For many of the undecided folks reading this, In my opinion, Taxi is that place.

Thank you Michael for creating this great company. The fantastic Taxi community, dare I say family, is a reflection of your effort and character.

Kind regards,

Paul Croteau, Taxi member

Great to meet you Paul, and yes, you certainly nailed that! I think we all have a lot to thank Michael Laskow for, in particular this wonderful community.

Cheers
