Another Celtic cue question...

IRISH and CELTIC INSTRUMENTAL CUES #Y180131CC
I was wondering if this listing needs the Celtic tune (jig, reel) structure? AABB (eight bar phrases) Or can verse verse chorus verse chorus verse chorus out be ok? I already recorded the latter (song) format and was informed about the jig/reel format..

Well I listened to the examples all the way through and they are the AABB style so my question is answered. EVen tho I have heard lots of Irish and Celtic music, I never thought of the structure.

I'm still the Newbie at The Ould Sod Trad Seisiuns (every Tuesday night), and have been learning about the structure.
Forgive me if I'm stating something you already know. The simplest is the 2-melody/repeated AABB structure - which, in a typical Trad Seisiun (session)
is played 3 times, before a signal is given, by the one leading that 'set', to medley into the next tune - usually similar in kind: i.e. jig-to-jig, reel-to-reel,
slip jig-to-slip jig, etc.
There are plenty of tunes that have multiple melodies, even as many as 5; i.e. Dr. O'Neill's Jig is AA-BB-CC-DD-EE.

With that length, it can be common to play it alone, with no following tune and/or only played through twice, rather than 3 times; at the discretion of the one leading out.

It's great fun music to play, and creates an incredibly sociable and upbeat atmosphere. A few pints of Guinness don't hurt, neither!

You are very helpful with this..thank you..no I don't know jack %% about the "theory" of it all but I have always had a passion for the music. Just never played it really..and never composed any. I have friends who are way into this music with concertinas, accordion..one even owns a home in Mabu NS strictly for the music there. I've seen Natalie McMaster perform and the flutist I am working with is also way into Celtic and gave me a Liz Carol Cd which is excellent.
I will upload my 1st attempt as soon as I finish it! The terms, jig, slip etc..all new to me..I will watch your video link..fortunately, my flutist was a musc teach for over 30 years, so she won'y let me slide..it was she who pointed my song structure...

I submitted a bunch of these, since I used to play celtic music a lot. I did jigs and reels, but I get the sense that you don't need to be that authentic. From the description, it sounds to me like they would be open to anything that "sounds" Irish. So I would guess the song form is less important then the instrumentation. If you can get an real instrument in there, and play it with some celtic ornamentation (cuts, rolls, etc), I wouldn't worry about strict song structure.

learned the beginner watermelon guitar strumming, had my friend record her Irish flute..and she wrote the melody..
