Another chance at trance

Post by CTWF » Mon Jan 14, 2019 2:30 pm

Here are the first 1:30 of my own attempt.

Contemporary, or early 90s?
Mix?
Give up, or go on?
:o

No dont give up on this one!!!

You're on the right track...

Once it gets going at about :54.... make sure to subtract some things out every now and then.... ala the examples.
It does have a 90's EDM vibe.... but that may be ok.... maybe get rid of the snare completely and boost the BD... to make is less EDM..????
Also ....make sure to use some filtering on the arp's sometimes... ala the examples....

Keep going....

My 7 cents,
Tim

Tim - many thanks for the encouragement! I think I have an idea how/what to further change along your lines. Especially the arp variations I had not done much work on yet.

Here is a question: Snare drum - getting rid of it from 0:53 on, you mean? Or do you really mean to also throw it out of the build-up in 0:39-0:53? Then I would have to replace it somehow to have some percussion doing the work there, right? :) From 0:53 on, the snare is paired with claps, maybe those should go too (or maybe not...).

I'll try and spent as much time as I can over the next week, which is not that much.

Yes, I have listened several times, but did not today (don't want to be too influenced by it  ), but changed the build-up (no snare), and implemented a first change in the "get-going" part, removing high synths in the latter part.
Next, I might remove snare everywhere, and work on the arp variations. Might push bass drum more. Still not sure I have it in me. Also time-wise. :( Tom

It still reminds me a bit too much of 90's EDM.....
But it does remind me a bit of "Airwave" by Rank 1

Still ..... something is not quite right..... to put it technically..... it's not trancey enough!
I'm not sure exactly what it needs....... I just know it when I hear it.... if that makes any sense.

Keep working on it and keep listening to the examples!!

My 4 cents,
Tim

Hey Tim, thanks again for popping in. Yeah, I think it is way more upbeat compared to the examples, less spacey. I think it is time to officially pull the plug on this one. For trance it is too EDM, for any EDM listing it is too trance... :( Sad thing is, now I kind of have grown to like this tune. Maybe I'll just take my time (weeks??) and finish it anyway, and then get a custom review to find out what exactly it is that I produced...  Tom

Hi Tom -

Sorry I can't be super helpful on this one as I'm deferring to you and Tim to help me make sense of trance!

Nice track though, I hope you finish it up and release it some kind of way.

Have a great weekend!

Jay :)
see you at the top!
