Another Creepy Instrumental from Hell-Need Fresh Ears

Post by 88keys » Sun Jul 01, 2012 9:42 am

The Taxi Chipmunks are busy digitizing my composition for the Creepy Atmospheric Listing :
A-LIST MUSIC LICENSING COMPANY U-R-G-E-N-T-L-Y needs CREEPY ATMOSPHERIC music for a VIDEO GAME TRAILER. They're looking for high-quality SCORE-type cues as opposed to traditional songs. Your music must convey a DARK, BLEAK and extremely CREEPY tone. References include: Wendy Carlos' "Clockworks (Bloody Elevators)," Ligeti's "Requiem," Jonny Greenwood's "There Will Be Blood" score, and Trent Reznor's more sparse (and non-quantized) score cues. Think: POST-APOCALYPTIC HELLSCAPE meets INTENSE PSYCHOLOGICAL THRILLER. They're going for a SCARY vibe but NOT slasher-film type scary. An icy tone is preferred to a more frenetic one
.

It's called "The Succubus."
Click my Taxi Link-you'll find the track there.

Am I in the ballpark ? Does any element within the work feel like it doesn't fit with the listing criteria ?

For some reason the link takes me to a piece called Broadway and 6th Ave but that's the only song there. Maybe you need to make the one you want reviewed public?

imagine if John Williams and Trent Reznor met at Bernard Hermann's for lunch and Brian Eno was the head chef!

I've deleted the link....hmm...don't know why all of my Taxi tracks didn't show up there ?
Click "The Succubus" track. It should work now.
Thanks Mazz.

Very cool piece!

I'm thinking it's veering toward Ligeti, which is a good reference.

The only thing that took me out of the vibe were the strings at around 1:40 when they play what seems to be the only "legit" melody in the piece. :) I think either make the melody more "creepy" in keeping with the listing or take them out there.

It's feeling pretty cinematic, which is a nice interpretation of the listing, they may go there. A lot of the big swells are cool, it's hard without being able to see it to say if they are too much for the vibe of the trailer, but I wouldn't take them out or have that stop you from submitting this piece.

Nice work!

Thanks Mazz.
We are thinking alike with respect to the strings so I may submit two versions one with the melodic strings (albeit a more creepy melody) and one without.(the Jonny Greenwood's "There Will Be Blood" score was quite cinematic...I followed that as my muse for this listing)

I've got another one ready.."The Incubus"...

Nice work. I like the string thing at 1:40. I think it adds a nice color

Good luck with this one

Thanks Robbie. I've added a rather "severe" sounding counterpoint to the violins. It's sufficiently creepy...at least I hope it is.

oooo, I think this is VERY good and VERY close to the listing requirements and referenced pieces.
Great job! Good luck!
