Another mp3 question

Post by brindabella » Wed Nov 05, 2008 2:04 pm

Ok, so I export my mp3 as stereo in 192 kbp. I have a question, tho:My encoder has two other options: allow highfilter pass and allow lowfilter pass. Should I check these? Why?

Hmmm...haven't seen that option on my mp3 encoder. I take care of the filtering at the mix & master stages...more control. My guess would be to not allow them, and let your mix come through as you created it.Which software are you using? Maybe send a screenshot or something for others to comment on?Common practice is to roll off anything below 20 Hz (or there abouts...some genres like to leave more of the really low stuff in). On the high end I've heard alot more variety of opinions of where/if to cut things off. Opinions here on the forum range from 12KHz to no cut at all...I haven't seen any producers in studios unilaterally cut things off on the top end.Cutting things off the bottom end is much more common...gets rid of all that energy that usually can't be heard before it hits the MP3 encoder.HTH?

Thank you Devin. I have never used this, it is Sonar. I'll ask at the Sonar forum and see if anybody uses this.
