Another Taxi Collab.

Post by billg » Sun Jan 27, 2008 7:52 am

Chits sent me the lyrics & melody. I worked the melody a little bit and came up with this. My treatment may have dragged her song into my land of the "fuzzy genre", I hope not. Hopefully it will work for some of the Americana listings that pop up from time to time. It's a prison/love song called "Leaving Out Of Atmore" or "Leaving Atmore" . . . the title still being debated.here tis'http://www.billgaunce.com/song/4

Quote:Chits sent me the lyrics & melody. "Personal experience" lyrics Chits? I love hearing these forum collabs. Great track and, interestingly enough Bill, your vocals in this one has kind of a Rod Stewart vibe going. I give it 5 's

I was very honored to work with Bill G. on this song....and don't let him fool you, he gave this song a new life. He gave it a whole new melody, fine tuned it, and really souped it up with his production. Thanks Dave and Bob for your very nice comments. No, Dave, other than a few parking tickets, I've never been in trouble with the law. Except for that one incident in a Texas brothel.. ... I too enjoy these TAXI collabs....this forum is great for songwriters such as myself who need help with production and bringing any lyrics we write to life (writing up as they call it, hehe)....yeah, I'm thinking "Leaving Out of Atmore" is definitely Americana.Opps, one more edit, I always have many. For those of who don't know what "Yellow Mama" is...it was Alabama's infamous electric chair retired in 2004. And 'Atmore' is the name of the town where Holman prison is located, a town not far from Mobile, Alabama. There were just some references in there folks here might not know.

Nice work guys! A little Dylan/Steve Forbert combined and, as always, great lyrics Chits. It could be a Dylan replacement track for film/TV (as well as other things, of course).I'd like to hear some harmonies added to the chorus to make it stand out more. So, Chits... What year did you get out? Casey

Thanks Bob! Dave, I had a lot of vocal harmonics creeping in, I call'em my third set choir.Casey I considered harmonies but I think it would have been a mistake to add harmonies myself . . . needs another (different) vocal texture in there for harmonies (I think). Oh yeah, I'm crazy about Steve Forbert, I actually got to open for him way back when he was on the road & Romeo's Tune was getting airplay. -bill

If Casey won't sing harmonies, I will...My voice sounds like "Yellow Mama",, that would give the song authanticity......(LOL) Bob

I love this song!! Well DONE chits and bill! I'll sign up for harmonies if you're lookin' for that female, moanin', prison feel.

Thanks everyone for the comments, they're much appreciated. I guess we'll have to recruit Squids, Bob and Case for a back up choir.
