any LASS users on a MBP??
i'm really thinking of getting LASS , i like the sound a lot and have been saving for it or something of the same caliber - i use a MBP and an external Lacie 500GB drive for vi's.The LASS web site talks about spreading the plug over a couple drives for better performance, and i'm worried I may be getting something far bigger then I can run....I love to add strings to various tracks...but really do not delve into thick orchestrations - that's just not my style .. or abilityI recently corresponded regarding this and this is the reply:Thanks for your interest in LA Scoring Strings!!You can use LASS on your MBP using an external fast drive (like you have), since LASS will take only as much resources as you want it to by loading more or less patches. I recommend 2 computers for those professionals who would use LASS to the fullest with deep divisi writing on all string sections and playback everything in real-time with no glitches. However, there are many users who use LASS on one machine without issues. And even for those who have lesser computers, you can use the full mixes or you can even use LASS to the fullest by rendering midi tracks. But my recommendation is, if you are unsure about your system specs, do not buy another computer until you've tried out LASS to see exactly how you would use it in your workflow. You can always buy another computer down the road if necessary.Any advice appreciatedThanksSteve

MBP? Mac book pro? Is it the latest with maximum RAM? I'm not sure if it will run smoothly, I have an 8core, and I have issues with some libraries and LASS is far more demanding than anything I got. Think Mazz might know something about this, I have asked this in the forum before about LASS and the recommendation is to run it on several computers.

Re: any LASS users on a MBP??
The core concept behind lass is the divisi concept. In most libraries, each string section is sampled as a whole for each articulation. This usually works well until you want to write divisi string parts. In a real string section, the more you divide the individual parts, for instance splitting up the first violins, the softer the sound gets because you lose the acoustic reinforcement of a mass of strings all playing the same note. With samples of entire sections, when you split them up, it gets louder because you're adding more samples. It doesn't sound like a real string section.lass has the sections split up into combinations of 2,3 and 4 groups of players. Also, there are nice pitch variations inside the groups and between the groups so you get the advantage of the natural sound of players constantly adjusting to play in tune, which again sounds more natural. Every one of those divisi sections takes up the same amount of CPU as a full section, so if you add up 4 divisi sections per voice, that's 20 sections where with a full section library, it would only be 5. That's why they recommend using 2 computers for the full divisi effect. Now they do have full section samples which sound great and use less CPU for reasons already mentioned, but to buy this library to do string pads with the full section samples is like buying a Porsche and driving it only at 35 mph.If you're thinking about dropping the dough on lass, consider that you won't be using it to it's fullest on your laptop unless you plan on doing lot of rendering to audio files. If you are only going to use it for pads, then you could get more bang for your buck by buying a full orchestra library for less than half the price. If you can afford it, is a fabulous library, but it's only strings. HTHMazzps typed on my iPhone so excuse any weird typos!

I guess the term "typing on an iphone" is more like "oops, I typed one word but it filled in another". I had some time at lunch and I must be borderline OCD to be able to put up with the iphone "keyboard" long enough to type a long post. I keep hitting the backspace button when I type an "m". Very frustrating.I would recommend EW or Hunter over Garritan for pro level results. Garritan works really well with notation programs to give an idea of what things will sound like, but for finished product, I wouldn't use it.Cheers!Mazz

And, the thing is. If you go to http://www.soundsonline.com/Classical-O ... -3.htmlyou can buy 7 full featured programs for the same price as Lass. 1195 dollars. I would do that, I maybe save up for Lass later on. I'm thinking of doing this, because I can't afford buying Lass and a computer for at least that price to run it. 2.400 dollars that is. My dream is to buy an iMac 27" quadcore Nehalem with 2 terrabyte and 16 gig ram. Use this with my DAW and my 8core to run additional software programs. That should work a little while.
