Any members in Seattle?

Post by feodorj » Wed Jul 02, 2014 8:51 pm

Hi, my name is John Feodorov and I'm new to this forum. Are there any fellow members here in Seattle? The Musician Junction doesn't seem to bring anyone up, particularly for Female Vocalists in this area.

Anyways, hoping to make some new friends and connections here. Thanks.

I'm close, but still far away. I'm a Boise boy.

There is a Taxi member that I know of in Seattle. Maybe the Taxi Forums could start a new "Local Members" category. I think a lot of people might find it useful for Taxi hang events, collabs, local shows (or of course, beer drinking events).
Patty Boss composes music for NBC, CBS, CNN, Fox, Bravo, MTV, VH1, etc.

Thanks Gavin, Patty and Matt. I have to say I would be surprised that in a music town like Seattle that I'm the only Taxi member.

Yes, I'm surprised that Taxi, for as much as Michael talks about community support, hasn't created some sort of regional or big city meet-ups. Or maybe Taxi isn't considered cool in Seattle? I admit that I'm still in the experimentation stage with Taxi, but at this point I can't say that I would renew my membership because the actual meeting and perhaps working with fellow members was one of the things I was hoping for.

Thanks again guys!

MANY of us have formed great collaborative relationships right here on the forum without ever meeting in person or living in the same geographical area. I regularly collaborate with folks from all over the country and the WORLD. We live in a day and age where living near each other isn't much of a factor. Files are readily shared by internet and email.

And the Road Rally is a FANTASTIC place to meet fellow members to work with. If you are a Taxi member and don't attend, you are missing out on one of the great benefits of your Taxi membership.

If your Taxi membership isn't helping you making contacts for collaboration, you should reevaluate how you make use of the tools offered, particularly this forum and the Road Rally. Other than asking about other members in Seattle, have you made use of this forum? Posted songs for peer review? Offered feedback on other people's songs? That's often how the relationships start.

Thanks Casey, I appreciate your response. However, for me at least, there is no replacement for flesh and blood and the immediacy of being within a physical collaborative environment. But thanks for expressing your viewpoint. Its a good one.

Taxi's primary charter isn't to help you meet people in your local area. I'm not even sure why you got that impression. If that was your major reason for joining and you are not seeing the other (main) benefits, maybe it's not for you.

As far as meeting people in your area, look for a local chapter of NSAI, local songwriter groups, open mics, etc. I'm sure there are lots of songwriting groups in a major city such as Seattle. Have you ever Googled "songwriting groups Seattle"? I just did and a bunch of things came up, though I didn't probe further.

I will say one last time that you should attend at least one Taxi Road Rally. Admission is included in the price of your Taxi membership and you will meet scores of other members. It can really change your perspective.

Best of luck,
:D Casey

I just have to add that given the amazing Road Rally in LA every year (People come from ALL over the world) as well as this forum, saying Taxi doesn't foster community is way off. In fact, you will hear many successful Taxi members say that the Taxi community is one of the best aspects of being a member.

If you think about it, it would be very impractical and non-cost-effective for Taxi to set up meetups in major cities everywhere. The planning and organization that goes into that is quite involved and expensive. That being said, I've seen Taxi members who met on the forum or at the rally set up their own get-togethers. But they grew out of getting to know and trust each other first by meeting at the rally after getting to know each other through the forum.

If you've never made any posts before on this forum, suddenly post you are looking to meet people in Seattle, and then quickly get frustrated... well... you haven't made much effort on your own.

Again, best of luck
:) Casey
