Any recommendations for Piano plug-in?

Post by bigbluebarry » Wed Apr 23, 2008 2:31 am

I'm running Pro Tools LE 7.3. Currently, the only piano plug-in I have is the group of patches that come with the Xpand! plug-in. I can get a decent sound to use on songs where the piano is a secondary instrument in the background. But I'm working on a song where the piano is the main instrument and none of the patches sound authentic enough. Can anyone recommend an authentic sounding RTAS piano plug-in? And since I honestly don't know, are there any that come with more sounds than just piano? Should I be looking for an "orchestra" type plug-in? Any help would be greatly appreciated.thanks!Big Blue

Hey Big Blue,There are a few on the market, but I've heard a lot of people raving about Synthogy - Ivory.http://www.synthogy.com/Not sure if that's what you're looking for?Take CareBToo be honest, I think the best would be to find a sampler that's just dedicated to that specific instrument...

Ivory is very good. It runs on their proprietary interface so Ivory is the only thing you can run with it.Another option if you need more sounds is to go with Kontakt, which comes with a pretty comprehensive library of instruments. Then you could add Kontakt compatible instruments from tons of other libraries out there. One of my favorite "go to" pianos is from Sampletekk, their 7CG. It's an awesome 7 foot Yamaha that's incredibly playable. It only runs in Kontakt but with Kontakt you get more flexibility because there's a ton of companies making libraries for it.http://www.sampletekk.com/products.php?cat=44Just another option.Mazz

thanks Mazz! I believe I've already got some sort of Kontakt plug-in. That's by Native Instruments right? I think I downloaded some sort of Free player a few weeks ago. I got an offer via email since I had purchased their Guitar Rig 3 software. The prices for these sounds are definitely more affordable for me right now. And quite honestly, I can't really tell much of a difference between them and the Ivory sounds. That might be because I'm a drummer though Thanks for the info!

Just make sure the libraries will work with the player you've currently got, maybe that's the Kore player which I don't know anything about. E-mail Sampletekk, they're pretty responsive, just give them a day since they're in Sweden on a different time zone. I'd hate for you to buy something you can't use!BTW: the Sampletekk Black Grand really sounds great too!Mazz
