Anyone have a great pop power brass sound I can borrow?

Post by DooWahDiddy » Fri Aug 12, 2016 3:33 pm

Since a lot of us here use VIs, I'm hoping someone here can help me. I'm looking for a great sounding pop/Chicago/Tower of Power brass sound, and my EastWest sounds are close but not cutting it. I already have the MIDI recorded; could I email someone the file, have them convert it to their VI, and then email it back to me as an aif? Is that even possible? Is it legal? It would be at whatever price we negotiated, of course, but it shouldn't be too hard; just load up the sound and save it as an aif.

Let me know if this is possible, thanks!

What's your deadline? I'm traveling on business next week, but might be able to do something for that combines brass vat plus real sax.

Hmm, I would think, if anything was going to be real, it should probably be trumpet. :( I have access to a trumpet player or two, so I suppose I could stick with my EW sounds and have him record a few layers over that... was just trying to avoid that, although maybe that's my best bet?

If you can layer in one real instrument, it always sounds better than VIs alone. Often you get the best results playing in single lines one at a time, but if you have something like Session Horns Pro, the scripting can turn block chords into something credible and with a little massaging here and there, even swinging. If you're not already using a wind controller or expression pedal, it might be just as good to write out the parts in notation and have your hired gun play them in

Here are a couple of tracks I've done with synth brass and my live sax:
