Anyone tried the Waves NX virtual mixroom plugin?
Hey y'all.
Has anyone tried this?
http://www.waves.com/plugins/nx#introdu ... l-mix-room
If so, is it any good? I am about to go off treading the boards for a while and won't have access to monitors, so this looks like it could be good?
( For info -I am still using my old cans, Beyer DT150's)
Thanks in advance
SJC

At the very least, it provides a baseline for mixing that's independent of the room where you listen, but you must presume that your headphones and whatever drives them are acoustically neutral, and that's a very big "if".

Personally, I wouldn't spend a lot of money on these reference/perspective type of devices. That's not to say they can't be useful. I think the money is better spent on analysis. I have a couple. The Beyer Virtual Studio is free, the TB Isone is $19.95, the only difference in the demo one is that you can't save your presets. The TB Isone is definitely worth trying, more presets and tweakability.

I came real close to picking it up when it as on sale for half off, but I only mix on headphones and a laptop in a Starbucks when I'm trying to prove something. If I didn't have/couldn't afford a good mix space, it would make a lot more sense.

I like saving someone money! You can still demo the Waves one for 14 days.
With the TB Isone, you could actually make pretty killer headphone demos, if you knew that was all anyone listened on,lol!
Analyzers allow you to see and compare what you may or may not hear, independent of hardware like monitors or headphones. They don't replace hardware. Theoretically, though not practical unless you have an anechoic chamber, you could analyze your monitors and headphones and adjust them to be a fairly flat reference.
the free analyzer type plugins:

https://www.meldaproduction.com/MEqualizer?kw=analysis
*every week melda has a 50% off sale on 4 different plugins, so there's no need to purchase at full price if you decide to do so.

Steve,
I'm forced to mix on headphones a lot so I now use NX as a check. I wouldn't mix through NX but it's very useful to flick it on to check what is basically an alternate listening environment while still using the same headphones. Pair it with Sonarworks headphone calibration and you have a very usable alternate reference setup.
