Anyone upgraded to Sonar X3 yet?

Post by jazzstan » Sun Oct 06, 2013 12:33 pm

I haven't finished fully absorbing X2 and a newer version of Sonar is out https://www.cakewalk.com/products/SONAR/X3/
Some interesting enhancements and additions. Anyone 'been-there-done-that' yet? Reports?
If you are a Sonar user and haven't upgraded yet, why not? What will tip the scale for you?

Just decided to upgrade.
One of the biggest features for me is the new implementation of Comping.
Still getting used to it, but it seems very powerful.

I upgraded with no problems. Actually there was one problem but it was a setting problem, having to do with my controller. The huge difference for me is the whole new set of effects. The old cheap ones they've had since the beginning of time are now relegated to the back shelf with the addition of the Nomad Factory stuff. Multiple eq's, compressors, etc. Lots of goodies. Addictive drums is a great addition (although I already had that one). Melodyne is great too although you and I probably wouldn't use it much. Or... Melodyne could launch your singing career! :D

I can't see any reason not to upgrade.

Thanks for the input! I want to upgrade but am concerned that the path from X1 to X2 left a lot of my old mixes with non-functioning effects. (Lesson learned = always, always export the stems!!). Now I need to just wait for the the crazy day-gig schedule to ease up a bit and provide some time.

And Dave ... no vocals here. The Los Angeles agency that manages air pollution has an injunction against me singing.

Hey Stan.

I was initially miffed that support for X2 was seemingly abandoned, with only one update released before they moved on to X3 less than a year after I upgraded. Quite a few folk on the Sonar forum thought the same and decided to go for another DAW. I did consider changing myself, but it just meant starting again.
Anyway, I decided to stick with what I know, and went for X3. Glad I did, as it's a big improvement, and does seem to warrant the PR they are putting out about it being the best version yet.
I like the new speed comping, and the Melodyne integration, which keeps everything within the session, and doesn't require you to export and import a file.
Don't know whether you've gone for it yet, but I recommend it!

Dave.

I'm on X2, I plan to go to X3 soon. Most everything I've read about it has been good.

I'm hoping it resolves some irritating bugs in X2. Little things, no showstoppers, but for example the snap to grid over-ride feature (ie. holding down the N key) stops working after I use it several times in one session. And numerous other little glitches that can interrupt your workflow. Overall though, Sonar gives me a ton of functionality, I'm a still a fan.

Just got it and installed it. Played my last couple of sessions just fine. Now the learning curve begins on what's changed, improved, what tricks I can add to my work flow.
