Apparently I totally missed the mark on this one - Public Domain Christmas Song Cover
The Listing:
Lots of INSTRUMENTAL COVERS of PUBLIC DOMAIN CHRISTMAS SONGS in ANY GENRE are needed by an EXCLUSIVE Music Licensing Company with tons of great placements in Film, TV, and other Media.
This Company is on the hunt for Instrumental Covers in ALL Tempos that could be found on a playlist with these examples:
"Silent Night" performed by CASSEO FM
"O Come All Ye Faithful (Epic Mix)" performed by Joel Steudler
"Oh Holy Night" performed by Apocalyptica
"Jingle Bells" performed by Herb Alpert & The Tijuana Brass
Although one of the references has some vocals, please submit Instrumental Covers only.
Please submit Instrumental Covers of Public Domain Christmas Songs (in any commercially viable genre) with a holiday-infused sound and vibe! Your submissions should have expressive and dynamic performances, modern sounds and productions, and lots of commercial appeal. Since this listing is open to a wide range of sounds, styles, and genres, instrumentation may vary based on which direction you choose to go. While some artistic freedom can be taken with the melody, your recordings need to be easily and instantly recognizable as the original. Your arrangements can lean more on the traditional to the very modern end of the holiday spectrum – just be sure your productions are current and your arrangements are solid! We recommend live instrumentation when possible. If you do decide to use any virtual instruments or samples, please ensure they are high-quality, modern, and very realistic.
This Publisher is open to hearing Instrumentals in most of the popular/commercially viable genres, including (but not limited to): Jazz, Orchestral, Pop, EDM, Hip-Hop, R&B/Soul, Folk, Rock, etc. We recommend avoiding submitting anything in genres that don't have a lot of mainstream appeal.
Your submissions should be about 1.5 to 2.5 minutes long, give or take. Please do not exceed 3 minutes. Non-faded, buttoned/stinger endings will work best. Do NOT submit any material with unauthorized samples of any other artists’ music, sounds, or any other form of media. Broadcast Quality is needed.

I love that Herb Alpert track! I know, I'll do a fun little combo jazz version of "O Christmas Tree" with solo alto sax and combo, like a small group got stuck in the corner of a foyer at a holiday party at the last minute.
Apparently, I totally missed the mark.

What I like most about this song
Fun cover. I like the quirky, playful vibe.
I think you could improve this song by
The virtual sounds are not organic enough. And the performances are too messy and pedestrian. There are pitchy, dissonant and tuning issues. The drums are also not in the pocket and the arrangement needs work. Needs a total revamp.
I returned or forwarded this song because
Too quirky, messy and demo sounding.

I got grumpy and deleted the track from my Taxi library. It's here for anyone who wants to hear how badly I screwed up.

Thanks, CosmicDolphin. I was trying to be kitschy. FAIL, I suppose.

I get the kitschy approach and quite like what you were going for. I do have to agree with the comments though. Despite it being a fun sound, the instruments volumes are out of balance (mainly lead too loud), the timing is off in a number of places, the drums are a bit random, and there are some 'mechanical' sounding elements that detract from the organic nature. Even though the sonic quality of the instruments is pretty good, those problems mean that the track would not be regarded as 'broadcast quality', so it falls at the first hurdle. However, I think you could re-do the track and fairly easily fix that with some extra attention to staying in the organic lane whilst tightening the timing and tweaking the mix. I hope you do that and have more success if you submit it again for another similar listing. Good luck with it.

Like it is, and 100% HI

Thanks, Telefunkin! I appreciate the encouragement. I'm definitely going to revisit it in the future.telefunkin wrote: ↑Sun Oct 27, 2024 3:14 amHowever, I think you could re-do the track and fairly easily fix that with some extra attention to staying in the organic lane whilst tightening the timing and tweaking the mix.
