Quote:Quote:Hi MazzThanks for replying. I am already using 2 external hard drives, 1 for audio and 1 for samples if this is what you mean, that’s why I am so surprised.I am going to try this DFD business and see what happens.Hmmm...I can't speak from experience but using external drives for audio and samples can't be as efficient as internal drives.I could see where this could cause problems.I only use external drives for backups, but maybe others are doing it this way?In my experience, it depends on the interface. I have 2 FW800 drives configured as a RAID that I use as my audio drives and 1 FW800 drive for samples as well as an internal SATA drive for samples. Everything runs fine with this setup. USB 2 might not be as robust.Mazz

I'm running Logic 7 on an imac with 1.5 gigs of ram. I don't have Kontakt but have gotten the same message on occasion when I forgot to close my browser and was still connected to the internet. As soon as I disconnected, the problem went away. Are you by any chance leaving any other programs open while you are tracking? Just a thought.Mewman

I've run my Logic/Pro Tools rig (G5) with samples on an internal and a couple FW drives, and all the audio off another FW drive. I recently moved the samples to a FW800 that seems to help with Ivory and a few other things, but I've never had trouble getting lots of audio tracks (24bit/44.1) off the one external FW400 drive for Pro Tools. I'm talking 60 or more tracks. USB 2.0 can't keep up with FW400.

I went in a few sites for Logic 8 and it appers that audio engine overload is a common problem with Logic 8!!!

Hmmm, I do have 6 Gig of RAM. Maybe you need more. When I went from 4 to 6 I certainly noticed a difference in the CPU's ability to keep up.
