AUTHENTIC, ORIGINAL, VINTAGE 1970s FUNK RECORDINGS

Post by DavidEarlDrew » Mon Jan 18, 2016 10:35 am

Hey Guys ,
please have a look at these tracks for this listing and give a few suggestions on how to improve >

https://soundcloud.com/don-br/my-baby-knows-im-cheating

https://soundcloud.com/don-br/rolling-on-6th-avenue

AUTHENTIC, ORIGINAL, VINTAGE 1970s FUNK RECORDINGS in the general stylistic ballpark of artists like Sly and the Family Stone, James Brown, Parliament -Funkadelic, Buddy Miles, The Average White Band, The Ohio Players, etc. are needed by an extremely successful Publisher of Period Music for Film and TV Licensing. The Publisher tells us, “We’d prefer early ‘70s Funk, but we’d also be happy to listen to music from later in the ‘70s, and even into the 1980s if it’s really authentic Funk.” Check out the examples below to see if you’ve got some old demos or masters that would fall into the Funk category:

Funk Songs in All Tempos, with Male or Female Vocals, and even Funk Instrumentals could work for this company! This Publisher is the hot, go-to company for a long list of extremely popular TV shows and big Feature Films when they need music that sounds authentic to a particular time period. This company often averages several placements per week, and many of those are TAXI members who’ve been signed with this company because they submitted to a listing like this!

Dozens of TAXI members have signed buy out, cash-up-front deals with this company. Several have even received checks for $10,000 - $15,000 (or more!) while still keeping their writer’s share of the publishing and getting performance royalties from their PRO on the back end! Deal sizes and buyout amounts vary depending on the number and quality of the songs singed by the Publisher. They DO NOT want material that was recently recorded and made to sound old. They can only use AUTHENTIC, ORIGINAL, VINTAGE Recordings of 1970s – 1980s Funk.

This is a GOLDEN OPPORTUNITY to make money with music you might have thought had no hope in today’s market. If you’ve got old Demos or Masters, then you could very well have what they need! This company knows that old recordings will typically sound less than hi-fidelity by today’s standards. Not a problem – they’re looking for authenticity! Even if your recordings were done in an old 4-track, 8-track or 16-track home studio, they could still be perfect for this company if they sound reasonably good. They DO NOT want slick, modern, ProTools generated recordings.

DO NOT SUBMIT FOR FRIENDS! Your name needs to be on the copyright. Your Songs need to be Original Compositions (no covers), and you need to own/control the copyright and master recordings to submit for this pitch. If you’ve got some AUHTENTIC, VINTAGE oldies but goodies that have been collecting dust for decades, you really need to send them in for this opportunity! You’ll love working with this company – they’ve made a lot of TAXI members very happy! Please submit one to three songs online or per CD. Please include lyrics. All submissions will be screened on a Yes/No basis. No full critiques. Submissions must be received no later than 11:59PM (PST), on Monday, February 2nd, 2016. TAXI #U160202FU

These are cool and funky cues and forgive me if I'm wrong but they sound like they're made to sound retro, in other words not actually of the era. I'm pretty sure this company needs actual authentic recordings from the era they are requesting so anything that sounds "loopy" is not going to cut it. Nice work though!

I just tried to listen, but I got an error message for all three. Did you take them down?

All the best.

Hey Ethan , Hope you are well
Many thanks for the advice , can I ask if you think this listing would be better suited for the tracks above ?

NEW LISTING -- FUNK INSTRUMENTAL CUES are needed by a NON-Exclusive Music Library that gets lots of placements in Reality TV Shows. They're very eager to find Mid-To-Up-Tempo Instrumental Cues in the general stylistic wheelhouse of these references:"Doin' It" by Herbie Hancock: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eq7wSIDjAes"Funky Thithee" by Shuggie Otis: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MLPU_ubUGwQ"Thank You" by Sly & The Family Stone: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qk0Wi1QkJggAlthough the references have vocals, please submit Instrumentals only for this pitch.Give them well-crafted Instrumentals that have an authentic vibe and style, with an in-the-pocket rhythm section that sounds like a real-deal Funk band. A horn section would be icing on the cake, but it's not absolutely necessary. All submissions should be at least 2 minutes long with easy edit points and buttoned/stinger endings. Do NOT copy or rip off the referenced artists or songs in any way, shape, or form. Use them only as a guide for tempo, texture, tone, and vibe. Broadcast Quality is needed (Great sounding home recordings are fine). This Library offers a NON-EXCLUSIVE, 50/50 Deal. You'll get 50% of any applicable sync fees and 100% of the Writer's share. The Publisher will get 50% of applicable sync fees and 100% of the Publisher's Share on the version they pitch. You'll keep 100% of the original copyright and master recording. You must own or control the Master and Copyright to submit to this pitch. Please submit one to three Instrumental Cues online or per CD. All submissions will be screened on a Yes/No basis by TAXI - No full critiques. Submissions must be received no later than 11:59PM (PST), on Sunday, February 7, 2016. TAXI #Y160207FC

Good start here, I think this can be worked into a good submittal. It sounds like a collection of loops to me, which is not necessarily a bad thing, I just perceive the need for more variety.

Some suggestions:
  • I think the track is too clean and repetitive to fit the listing. The mix is clean, bright, heavy in the bass. Check out the three a la's they provided and try to max them more closely.
  • The sax loop needs to be varied throughout the track, it gets repetitive, something that the screeners are not fond of. They want to hear more variety.
  • Sometimes the guitar is louder than the sax
  • The groove/pocket that kicks in at 0:52 is more of what I think they are looking for. I'd cut the first 50 seconds quite bit, maybe start the track at 0:40 as an intro.
  • Can you add another rhythm section instrument, perhaps an organ or rhodes?

    Hope this helps!
