Avant-Garde Orchestral instrumental feedback requested

Post by eandersonmusic » Tue Nov 01, 2022 2:22 pm

Hey everybody!
This listing just came in today and caught my eye because I feel a may have a few pieces that could work for this listing. I'm wondering if it is avant-garde enough? I feel it may be more abstract than avant-garde, so I would love any feedback!

Here's the listing-

AVANT-GARDE, ORCHESTRAL INSTRUMENTALS and/or INSTRUMENTAL CUES are needed by a top-tier European Music Library with Major Distribution that focuses on placements in Feature Films.

NOTE: This new Company is BRAND NEW to requesting music from TAXI, so this is an excellent opportunity to create a new relationship for you and your music with a catalogue you're probably not in yet!

This Library is looking for moody Instrumentals (or Cues) that could be heard on a playlist with the following references:

"Erhu Da Gamba" by Ulrich Bassenge
https://youtu.be/mG3cwOKiyDk

"Legions (War)" by Zoë Keating
https://youtu.be/_fbeK3m_HlI

"Arlanda" by Julia Kent
https://youtu.be/tPrbbFUHVLU

Please send well-composed avant-garde, Orchestral Instrumentals (or Cues) with an overall dark, ominous, and moody vibe and feel. Your submissions should feature top-tier orchestral instrumentation (in the general wheelhouse of the references) and have innovative motifs and arrangements. We recommend crafting your pieces around a central motif and layering instrumentation in and out to create a sense of dynamics, layers, and forward motion. Your production should be polished and any virtual sounds or samples you use need to be high-quality and state-of-the-art – nothing dated or overly MIDI-driven will work.

Your submissions should be roughly 90 Seconds long for Cues, and about 2 to 3 minutes long for Instrumentals, give or take. Non-faded, buttoned/stinger endings will work best. Do NOT copy the referenced music in any way, shape, or form. Use it only as a general guide for tempo, texture, tone, and overall vibe. Do not submit any material with unauthorized samples of other artists’ Songs, sounds, or any other form of media. Broadcast Quality is needed.

This company offers an EXCLUSIVE deal, so please be sure the Instrumentals you pitch for this opportunity are NOT already signed with any other Companies, Catalogs, or any "monetization"/sync, or publishing admin deals with TuneCore, CDBaby, SongTrust, etc. Any sync fees will be split 50/50 with the Library. You'll get 100% of the Writer's share, and the Publisher will get 100% of the Publisher's share. In some rare cases, there is the option to get an upfront payment in exchange for 20% - 30% of the writer's share – but that can be discussed directly with the Library. You must own or control your Master and Copyright to submit. Please submit as many Instrumentals or Cues as you'd like, online or per CD. All submissions will be screened and critiqued by TAXI. Submissions must be received no later than 11:59 PM (PST) on Wednesday, November 16th, 2022. TAXI # S221116AV

That's gorgeous! It builds really well, and those articulations are sublime.

The piece sounds like it belongs in Schindler's List.

Some will say there is too much reverb, but to me it suits this piece really well.

Well done and good luck with it.

Best wishes,

Glenn

Thanks Glenn!
Yeah the reverb is heavy, I will probably make a mix with less of it, but honestly I like it the way it is too.
Much appreciated!

Very cool track Erik! What samples are those? I love the mood. The percussion is quite low in the mix - I kinda wanted more - but it does come through.
Nice job!

Hey Robert!
Thanks for the kind words! I'm a little scared to make the percussion track louder because it isn't necessarily an orchestral sound, but yeah it does need to be there, not the same without it.. so I tried to keep it at a level whereas it's not so much noticed, as it is conveying the mood.
I may have to tweak that level when I tweak the reverb.. just to see the difference.
Thanks again for the feedback!
-Erik
