Back to Music School

Post by Razor7Music » Mon Nov 19, 2012 11:12 am

Hello Forum--

I submitted my first tune last week and was just reading up on some of the posts in this particular section to prepare myself for what will come from the screener. I've really appreciated those of you that put yourselves out there for critiques and support, and I also appreciate the feedback that was posted. It seemed genuine and constructive.

I guess it then just occurred to me that the best attitude I can have for my Taxi and songwriting journey is that I've gone back to music school where only A's are given credit. When you think about it, that's pretty much the best attitude to have. No matter how good you are at your craft, it's up to you on what you will do when the 'teacher' grades your work. Will I take a stand and say the teacher doesn't know what they're talking about? Will I say, "Man, I didn't get an A, I'm dropping this class"? Or will I 'study' harder so I do better on the next 'test'? The Taxi members, forums and any outside resources we utilize to help us are like tutors. Will I use their advice? Maybe not all of it, but typically tutors are those that have been there and can add their experience and wisdom for others to gleen from.

If I have this attitude, no matter what I get from the screener (after I get over the inevitable hurt) I will be learning, improving my craft, and end up a better songwriter in the long run. I can't lose! :)
Thanks,

Stephen Davis, Songwriter

Are you trying to console yourself already??  I'm not sure really what matters the most if anything, but I do know that it will test your resolve for whatever that's worth.

I don't have an opinion on the best attitude. In the old "cup half empty or half full" adage, I don't see a difference, either way is 4 ounces. ;) If a bad attitude is revolutionary, well that can be good, lol! If winning was the only thing that matters, I don't know why anyone even bothers to show up on any of these tv talent shows, lol! And God forbid if you're on a losing football team like the Kansas City Chiefs are this year! Just be careful you don't get over confident now if you do get a forward, lol!
