Bi-partisan, can't we all get along political song

Post by bucyboy » Thu Sep 20, 2012 6:37 pm

I got this idea from all my facebook friends.

This my "Bi-Partisan, can't we all get along political song. See what ya think!

(An) American Party Mark "Buc" Williams(2012)ASCAP

(V1)
I get confused why people fight
Over what is left and what is right
Who cares most, who gives to little
As for me I'm right down the middle

(Chorus)
I'm as independant as I can be
Like conservin' my energy
Don't have much green at all
(But) I'm liberal with the alcohol
I can socialize with most anyone
That has a moderate constitution
I'm a citizen of an old patriarchy
Representative of an American party

(V2)
There's no need for disdain
Basically we're all the same
If money is the argument
Try usin' some common cents

(Chorus)
I'm as independant as I can be
Like conservin' my energy
Don't have much green at all
(But) I'm liberal with the alcohol
I can socialize with most anyone
That has a moderate constitution
I'm a citizen of an old patriarchy
Representative of an American party

(Bridge)
When people ask me who I am
I say I'm mister bi-partisan

(Ride)

Chorus)
I'm as independant as I can be
Like conservin' my energy
Don't have much green at all
(But) I'm liberal with the alcohol
I can socialize with most anyone
That has a moderate constitution
I'm a citizen of an old patriarchy
Representative of an American party

I'm a citizen of an old patriarchy
Representative of an American party

Thanks Stuart. I revised the lyric some to keep the chorus the same. It might get too confusing to keep altering it a little bit.

Love the 'common cents' word play. What style is this written for?

Best,
Paul

Thanks Paul. I thought it would be kind of a fun sing-a-long thing. Kinda leaning toward the folky/country side .....right now anyways.

I love the common cents line, too, but I don't know how well it would play with a listening audience. No reason to drop it, though.

On the other hand, the word "disdain" stands out, because it doesn't fit with the conversational style of the rest of the song. It's too hoity-toity of a word for the character the singer is assuming, IMHO. It really clanged for me, the only thing that did.
