Bob Dylan Can Sing

Post by Kelil » Sat Apr 21, 2012 10:43 am

So some screeners tell me that although I sound like a Bob Dylan, the difference is that I can sing whereas Bob Cant sing.

But seriously, they are not the only ones who think this. Loads of people do. It is very much a stereotype people have about bob. Ya know, you start up a conversation with people about Bob and they say ''ah yeah great lyricist but absolute horrible singer ''.

But here is the thing...if Bob can not sing then why did millions of people buy HIS records with HIS voice on it? Lets face it, when it comes down to listening to the Byrds version of Mr.Tambourine man or Bob's original one, I'm gonna pick Bob's original with his voice on it ( and I do love the Byrds ).

So...do some of us still think Bob Can not sing? hmmm

I'm with you, Kelil...and yet this topic always turns toxic somehow, doesn't it? Sort of like Neil Young's voice--I love it, many loathe it with the sort of passion usually reserved for political arguments.

But can these guys sing? Yes indeed they can. And the fact that they don't sing like Adele or Harry Connick makes the songs work.

Yeah, it's an example of when push comes to shove, the terminology we use is really fragile. Bob Dylan can sing, so can Britney Spears and Lady Gaga. The only one I'll never agree to is Madonna!

I don't like his singing...at all. But hell, that's never stopped anyone before...

... how do you feel about Yoko Ono's "singing"?

Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, Neil Young, Rod Stewart...none of these would win a singing competition. The first three were/are poets, Rod was just plain sexy.

Classic example of good singer/bad voice. Mick Jagger doesn't have much of an instrument either, but he's done rather well with it. I think it's the unique recognizability of these rather 'warty' voices that made them the icons they became; you always knew who it was, when they came on the radio. I hear the doctor that saved Lionel Richie's burned-out voice (he 's worked with Steven Tyler and Adele, too) may be giving Bob a similar makeover in the near future. He'll have to be careful not to do too much or risk ruining Bob's 'bad singing' career, heh.
