I was running DP5 on an old computer, didn’t update for years. Then I got a ‘new’ computer (second hand) and put DP9 on there.

I wanted to move some tracks across and remix the DP5 tracks on DP9, but of course the files wouldn’t convert up 4 versions!

Luckily as I was using 2 computers I was able to bounce each instrument individually on DP5 and move them onto the newer computer to mix on DP9.

Not great practice tbh, but I’ve done 3 tracks like that and 2 of them have been forwarded. One of them twice!

It’s an option if you can run both versions anyway.

Best of luck with it.
Chris :)
I've been using it since DP4 back on OS9 running on a G3 Mac! I've been a faitful DP user for years never bothering with another DAW ..... until Logic Pro X.

I feel like, for me, Logic Pro X tends to be more "musical" or "compositional" due to it's very easy access to loops and instruments, etc. But I usually end up mixing and mastering in DP because I'm used to that workflow and I also feel the interface is better for those Mixing and Mastering tasks. I'm sure many LPX users may disagree - but it works for me.

All great points from the pros!

I'll add one thing that I experienced from the Road Rally that I think relates here. During the listening panel on Saturday, there were a couple of tracks selected that were presented as "instrumentals". In both cases the panelists asked if they were regular tracks with the vocals taken out. Yep, that's what they were AND that's what they sounded like--not what they are looking for when they are looking for instrumentals. You could actual hear the dynamics and arrangement of the track change when the vocals would come in for the verse, etc.

They recommended if you're going to take a full track and remove the vocals to submit it as an instrumental, to replace 'some' of the vocal melody with an instrument, etc. The point here is that it's not as easy as just muting the vocal tracks to make an instrumental track. It will sound like that's what you did and decrease your chances of a placement--at least with the panelists they had on Saturday.

FYI-- :-)

Just elaborating on your post here (3rd point):

- The "full" mix and various submixes, i.e. drum and bass, etc
- As many individual stems as applicable
--> Instrumenta / Vocal version when applicable <--
- 30 / 60 / 90 / second versions + stinger versions where applicable
- Fadeout / button ending version where applicable
- Full length / radio edit (abridged)
- Lengthy intro / quick start version where applicable
Thanks,

Ahh ok thanks! Yes, makes sense now. I was trying to salvage a proper instrumental but I can see where you are going. I've learned that lesson. :)
