Re: Bring out your protest songs!!!!
Hi eveyone....love ya'lls protest songs.....we don't hear as many these days as we should eh? I grew up in a house that jammed Woody Guthrie, Phil Ochs and Dylan. I love listening to the old rough mixed recordings of those songs. thanks ..and hope ya'll enjoy. kevTHIS IS AMERICAIn the news I heard todayThat a man killed a man for nothin'And his court appointed suit and tieSat back and flashed his dirty moneyYour worried bout this trump'd systemForm your focus group and write your lettersWell you think that you count for somethingBut you ain't shit to a man who's kids go hungry. This is America..wheres my MercedesWell now send your dollar to the church of broken dreamsThis is America...wheres my MercedesRight down the street I saw a man eatin' from a garbage can...this is AmericaWe live in the land of "Milk and Honey"For some that milk has soured in the streetYou can turn your head and close your eyesWell now every time you blink a baby criesYou can choose to live your "fantasy"I see your "pot of gold" has no bottomWell now they don't need your sympathy"Hey man...just spend one night in a cardboard box with me"....This is America..wheres my MercedesWell now send your dollar to the church of broken dreamsThis is America...wheres my MercedesRight down the street I saw a man eatin' from a garbage can...this is America(solo space)This is America..wheres my MercedesWell now send your dollar to the church of broken dreamsThis is America...wheres my MercedesRight down the street I saw a man eatin' from a garbage can...this is AmericaWhat can you possibly offerWhen you don't even understandNow you can't even feel sorrowwith a roll if dead presidents in your handThis is America..wheres my MercedesWell now send your dollar to the church of broken dreamsThis is America...wheres my MercedesRight down the street I saw a man eatin' from a garbage can...this is Americahttp://www.taximusic.com/song.php?song_id=92696&stream=1END of INNOCENCECall up the men...the young and the old....The Kaiser has said great events will unfoldYour country needs you to sit in the groundAnd that is the place where your body will be found....Well here comes the gas and the flameFor this kind of war...the devil is to blameSo fight on through the smoke and the ashAnd once you go over..there ain't no turnin' back.....there ain't no turnin' backYou'll fight for your honor and your countries name...little bits of cloth and metal you'll obtain. But what you don't know about this great warit bears no glory and it's rotten to the coreSo here comes the gas and the flameFor this kind of war...the devil is to blameSo fight on through the smoke and the ashAnd once you go over..there ain't no turnin' back.....there ain't no turnin' back(solo space)So here comes the gas and the flameFor this kind of war...the devil is to blameWell fight on through the smoke and the ashAnd once you go over..there ain't no turnin' back.....there ain't no turnin' backThe dust and the rubble will finally sit still...in this devastated land there's no more men to kill. The figures all lie as silent as the grave...their families will know they all died being brave. So here comes the gas and the flameFor this kind of war...the devil is to blameWell fight on through the smoke and the ashAnd once you go over..there ain't no turnin' back.....there ain't no turnin' backAnd once you go over..there ain't no turnin' back.http://www.taximusic.com/song.php?song_ ... 8&stream=1

Here's my song to protest senseless killing of wildlife for sport, especially bow hunting.Gus And Gail Were Wild Lovers (Larry W. Jones 09/10/2007) (song#4933)Gus and Gail were wild loversSnow geese who mated for life one summerGus, the goose and Gail, his wifeThey lived a life of ease on Lake LouiseBefore the first winter cold snowfallThey would follow all the other geese with their callAnd in migrating, they would all goSouth to Palacious on the Gulf of MexicoThree were their happy summers togetherSo happy, Gus and Gail, in all kinds of weatherTo the other geese it was plain to seeThey were as free as geese were created to beOther playful geese said to Gail and GusCome, fly on down and splash usAnd before the first snowfall, we will allFly down south to PalaciousBut the day before the first snowfallThe heart of our Gus was seized in frightAn arrow from a bow, smooth and smallWas flying through the air in his sightThe arrow would fly upon the breezeAnd a goose would die on Lake LouiseAll the geese were honking loudly for the morrowThey would be winging south on their wayExcept for one honking lowly in his sorrowGus with his dying wife Gail, would stayCome and follow us, the other geese begged of GusYou will freeze in the snow and ice on Lake LouiseGus stayed behind, but the other geese had to goAnd he watched them take to wing south upon the breezeDown to Palacious on the Gulf of MexicoThe cold snowfalls of winter fellAnd that is all there is to tellOf the tale of geese Gus and GailThe bow hunter didn't care to knowGus and Gail were wild loversSnow geese who mated for life one summerOn Lake Louise they lived their life with easeA few short summers ago

Hey guys here's another, just written, about a kid who was murdered cause he was gay, watched a Discovery show, really powerful, hope the song does it justice... Geohttp://www.taximusic.com/song.php?song_id=97855&stream=trueThe ShepherdLyrics and music by George Daniels© 2008The Shepherd sat at Fireside, sipping on his beer,Little did he know that the wolves were lurking near,Little did he know that a friend was not a friend,Little did he know but soon he’d understand. What started out as one thing quickly led to another,They took what they wanted but had to push it farther. The cold, hard steel felt good in their hands,And they relished the power over a helpless man.A fight for your life, would you beg for mercy?A struggle to survive, would you offer all your money?A chance to make a stand, would you even stand a chance? We all know how these stories end.The Shepherd spent 18 hours lashed to a cross,When they asked Dopey why, all he said was just because. But little did he know he’d never be free to hunt again,Little did he know but soon he’d understand. What started out as one thing quickly led to another,But now the wolves were trapped I heard they even blamed their Mothers. The cold, hard fact remains you hit him again and again,Now it’s time to pay the piper, for your blood stained hands. The Shepard died to wash away your sins.SoloA fight for your life, would you beg for mercy?A struggle to survive, would you offer all your money?A chance to make a stand, would you even stand a chance? We all know how these stories end.The Shepherd sat at Fireside, sipping on his beer,Little did he know that the wolves were lurking near,Little did he know that a friend was not a friend,Little did he know but soon he’d understand. The Shepherd sat at Fireside, sipping on his beer. The Shepherd sat at Fireside, sipping on his beer. The Shepherd sat at Fireside, sipping on his beer.

Quote:When they asked Dopey why, all he said was just because.Isn't that a Bob Dylan lyric? (Dopey - Joey)"When they asked him why it had to be that way,He answered just because."Now, there's a man that could write a protest song.

Now that you mention it it might be, but that was the killer's nickname. It's funny I was watching "Stranger than Fiction" when I wrote this and they have this whole scene where they discuss "Little did he know..." as a story telling tool and that just had to go in as well.... Geo

I have one called 'Ive Lost All Faith' which is actually on Neil Young's Living With War Song Page at #40 out of 2500 songs...It's kind of a society's pretty messed up and we better fix it soon type take.I haven't put it on Taxi yet, but you can find it on my MySpace page, or on the Living With War Today Song Page. By the way, if you have a song and you want to get it on the LWW Song page, you can send an email with the link to: songs@lwwtoday.comwww.myspace.com/stevevaclavik - I've Lost All FaithSteve V

Re: Bring out your protest songs!!!!
Hi geo. Great topic. Don't have any songs to contribute. My draft number was 152. I was in college with a kid on the way. Went to the physical in Milwaukee and was expected to be be shipped out in a couple of weeks. Guys in there were doing everything imagineable to flunk the physical. I would say there was fifty of us in the raw on the perimeter of the room and the doc was checking everyone out. He paused at me and said 4F. Pointed at mylittle toe( it tries to cross the second one). He asked me if I had trouble walking. I said hell no I just set the state record in the high hurdles. Shook his head and said "won't make special boots for you". I was defered. Guy along side of me (in tears) asked if I broke it on purpose. I went home a "made love not war". sincerely Paul
