Broadcast quality...?

Post by mcmoore1 » Sat Jan 22, 2011 9:51 am

So, anything I submit through TAXI's .mp3 conversion to a listing indicating 'broadcast quality' is not considered broadcast quality, correct?
Do I need to send in a cd then?
I submitted a song that was mixed by a pal who is credited with three mixes on Pink's latest cd and mastered professionally. It was returned 'not master/broadcast quality'. Huh?
Just trying,
Mark.

Hey Mark..I believe most people submit through the website - not by CD - so most are by MP3. Then if you get a forward and the client likes your stuff he'll request a WAV file directly from you. Don't know about your submitted mix and have no idea why it was rejected BUT my MP3s always sound very poor on the Taxi site compared with the same file on a Reverbnation player. I'm told that the screeners listen to the file as submitted but that the one posted on the website is of lower resolution.

It helps if you make your MP3s from 24 bit mixes that are a couple Db shy of zero and in the largest allowed format (192Kbs).

I could be mis-informed on this stuff but I'm sure someone will come along and either discredit or verify this info for us.

Mark
If you can, post a link to the song that was returned. It's also best if you can post the full listing and review comments because everything is in context.

Best,
Casey

Nooooo... :D

I don't know of anyone that submits via CD anymore... all done by the website. And I would say that based on what I know that 99% of forwards and deals come from the website submissions.

I think the "broadcast quality" checkbox causes more problems and raises more questions than it answers. We all think "crappy recording" when we get that but I remember getting one where the screener made a small comment... "vocal needs to come up". Well... yes, that *is* a broadcast quality issue but I would have been stumped had I not seen that little comment. The sound quality of the overall recording was just fine.

Anyway... on Y/N submissions I try not to pay too much attention to anything they might check and I look for my info/help/feedback when submitting to listings that give full critiques.

hth,

Dave

Thanks guys.
I took the liberty of checking out your sites. Mucho talented. Very cool stuff.
I've tweaked the track with an LA2A, saved at 64 bit before .mp3 conversion and will resubmit when an appropriate listing surfaces again.
