A large diaphragm tube mic is about the only hole in my mic collection ( that I know of ), you have me looking real hard at the Peluso line...... Leaning toward one of the U47 clones, I thought you might give me some insight here.......
The CEMC6 mics look pretty cool, I have 3 of the AKGC451EB with CK1 capsules, the pad and the HP switches look very similar to the 451, is this a clone of any mic...????
Can anyone recommend a good and affordable tube mic?

Nice. Those are the good 451's. I dont know if they are clones of anything. I just know that I have used the 451's allot and I know people who have used them and they now have cemc6 and they love the cemc 6 as much or better. All the reviews at gearslutz and everywhere were all positive.
I would definitely recommend any Peluso mic. I will for sure be getting another one after my cemce 6's. I just save my money. Unlike other people I have read here I dont go for the chinese stuff any more. I've tried that. To me it's worth it to save a little more and get the good stuff made in America that lasts.
The last chinese mic I had was a SE Electronics Z5700. The top end was too harsh and the mic had screws fall out. It was horrible!

If you are looking for a good inexpensive tube condenser I would recommend the Carvin CTM100. It's got 9 pickup patterns! I'm planning to buy one this year. I bought the CM-87S back in 2002 and it cost me $300 then. It was worth it too. These mics have come down in price ever since. I own a lot of Carvin gear and I have nothing but good things to say about that company.

Im one of those guys that thinks it better to save up and get better gear and not settle for the China stuff.brett_lemos wrote:any one here have an opinion of the mxl v69 mogami Tube mic?,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Brett Lemos in LA CA
For example. I waited and saved up for a pair of Peluso cecm 6. Just recorded them today for the first time. WOW! It was SO worth the wait and the saving.
From what I hear, Peluso is a rich dude that doesnt need the money but loves building mics. So he builds exact knock offs of the most famous mics and sells them for a third of the price of the famous ones. I now own three of them and I can tell you first hand its worth it!!!
So rather than spend $300 on the MXL with might fall apart and sound ruff, save up $1200 and buy a real good mic that you will cherrish for many years to come.
If you have $300 then in just 4 times the amount of time it took you to get $300 you can have $1200 and get a world class mic like thisone:

That mic will rock your world!!!
Forget the mxl!
