Can I Write a New Song Each Week?
So I'm new to taxi, but I think I know what you're all thinking: Of course, that is not a real challenge, one a day is more like it!
BUT
The idea and challenge behind this is to:
a) make each song stand alone (i sift through a lot of my own crap writing whilst doing this, in a sense you could argue i'm writing a lot more than 1 song a week lol)
b) record and produce each track to a level that it would be usable for taxi listings
So I'm promoting it on YouTube at:
www.youtube.com/helmutuhlmann
I've just uploaded episode 4, which is a bit of a joke one (titled No Nerds Please (In Da Club) and quite different from the rest. But the idea is to keep switching it up between styles and really develop my diversity.
What are your thoughts on this? It'd be great if you could check out a few of my songs and leave your feedback. If you like it then it would be super awesome if you could spread the word and I may get some more hits, views and hopefully subs!
Thanks for taking the time to read this!
Cheers,
Helmut

Subscribed to your youtube, good stuff! I think more important than a song a week though, is one hit a year! Don't over-write at the expense of a potential hit that needs more attention!

Great to watch your Utube channel! I really liked that singer/songwriter vid!
Not sure I get your project, but it's certainly crucial to give your work the proper attention.
I divide my projects into slow and fast projects from the start. Usually my instrumentals are fast projects, made from 3 hrs to a day, and my songs w/lyrics are slow projects, made from about a month till .. eh, never finished (some are in between as well). I've had no luck with my slow projects so far, but my fast projects has turned out quite well.
As with all things creative, I believe whats important is to capture a vibe or a certain energy. I've been more successful doing that in (very) short time frames. If I spend too long, the vibe seems to elude me. So, I practice my chops (both writing, recording and mixing) in order to get better at capturing great energy, fast. That's basicly the deal for me, allthough some projects are not that clear to define on the spot, and requires much more time and consideration.

Re: Can I Write a New Song Each Week?
Thanks a lot
I agree, works definitely need proper attention, but I figure I can always revisit songs later?
I really know what you mean with slow and fast projects. I'm pretty similar, usually the majority of a song for me comes in half an hour or so, the rest is tweaking (sadly the pressure of this song a week project seems to be slowing me down lol, but that's the challenge!). But then again, slow projects do happen too.
That's a cool way to look at songwriting and recording though, to capture that energy. I think that I'm gonna look at things that way from now on more often...
