Can loops from Cubase MediaBay be used commercially?
Hi Guys,
I've been fooling around with loops and Loopmash and having a lot of fun with it. But it seems too easy. Is it legal to use these loops in Cubase? And also Loopmash has some loops in it. Just wondering.
example of something I just threw together in like 10 minutes using loopmash and loops from Cubase MediaBay: https://soundcloud.com/the-element-music/friday-funk
Thanks for any feedback,
Gavin

also interested in this...
I mean, honestly, you'd be actually disappointed (well I would be anyway
)if you could rip the loops and pass em off, ...but I'm interested in what the technicalities are surrounding the level of customisation required etc.

Gavin, I am under the assumption that I can use anything from Loopmash and not worry about copyrights. Steinberg sold the product bundled with Cubase. So I have paid for the right to use. I paid for EZDrummer, and use the samples included. Same thing, sold as Producer's tools. That's how I see it. Looked around and couldn't find any disclaimer in the product re: commercial use.

Be sure... I remember reading about how another DAW (FL i believe) had bundled some "demo/example" stuff that was copyrighted and people mistakenly used the stuff and got into some trouble.

I would assume also if one bought cubase full license the samples and loops are clear to use. For me they seem best used mostly as a creative tool and then you can go back and reproduce to your liking. especially loopmash. might like what comes out of loopmash sometimes but really need to reproduce it and break it down into individual parts which are easier to edit and manipulate.
The main samples I'm after are stuff like white noise, cymbals, kicks, claps and snares.
For synth etc I still prefer to play on the midi keyboard using VST and play everything by ear/feel. then I can go into midi and edit if needed.
I've seen a lot of writers on youtube use loops to get a project going.

I'm pretty sure with most loop-based situations you just have to remember to not upload JUST the drums or JUST the keys. It needs to be mixed with other sounds.

Thanks Steve. Much appreciate the response. Yes I DL a few loops and samples and they have license info which says what you said not to distribute individual samples but they are royalty free and can be used in compositions which then can be used commercially.
Primeloops is a good one to check out if you haven't already.
