CD Baby and social video monetization

Post by guest4254 » Mon Aug 05, 2024 8:44 pm

Would signing CD Baby's social video monetization addendum in any way affect a song being signed with a Music Library?
Just sounds like they'd be collecting any $$$ my song would make through FB, YouTube and Tic Toc, but I just want to make sure I'm not shooting myself in the foot with anyone else by signing up for this.

It could but every library's contract terms are different. Some libraries may not allow it. So I would say if you are pitching your songs to libraries, don't do it. After you sign songs with a library, you could ask then if this would be a problem.

Best,
:D Casey

Some libraries don't mind but others will tell you to take them down. I had tracks that I signed that were posted on Youtube and I had to delete them after. They don't mind after it has been signed to share your success of tracks via a link from their website on your social media platforms.

Would signing CD Baby's social video monetization addendum affect the revenue or rights of a song already with a Music Library, given that CD Baby would collect revenue from platforms like Facebook, YouTube, YouTube Vanced, and TikTok?

In my experience all the good exclusive libraries want to put the tracks out on these social platforms and collect this revenue. They will send you the writers portion of anything they collect on some sort of regular statement.

Signing that away to another entity like CD Baby could prove problematic and personally I wouldn't do it if Exclusive librariy deals are what you are looking for.

Wonder how difficult it would be to backtrack and take it all down, if it came down to it. No way of knowing whether my track would be picked up by any library, let alone an exclusive...

Probably not very easy to untangle.

Hello all.

Do libraries posting an Exclusive listing frown upon a piece being on Bandcamp? And/or posted on social media?

Wanna share some pieces I've been submitting, but don't wanna shoot myself in the foot.

Some do , some don't - there's no one size fits all answer. If you want to be 100% certain then don't share them publicly.
