Okay, why don't you get your story straight BEFORE you post something. That's really rude and unfair to your artist membership. Many, like me, have probably already started working on this. I was born and raised in Dallas, Texas and didn't move to New Mexico until 1991. My dad still lives in Dallas. Does that count?
So with this addendum to your posting, you've scrapped a lot of work. This is really un-cool and UN-PROFESSIONAL!

Before you posted this did you contact taxi about it? If you have your bio and links already uploaded on your taxi site, they might be able to go in and add them to your submission for you after the fact. Sometimes just calling and asking takes care of it.
On another note, you probably know that the music business, much like any business, is run by people just like you and I, and people make mistakes. In my experience of the business, things change all the time and sometimes those last minute changes are even made by top professionals. I wonder if you would respond the same way to the inevitable last minute changes made by the producers of this show if you were to land that composing gig? If there is a business where the ground under your feet changes more than in the music business, it would have to be the film/tv production business and not being able to roll with it is the sure sign of an amateur.
Good luck!

Re: changed the rules on a posting after several days #Y120613BL
Joe,
I believe the email on the listing number you are posting about was brand new today.
There is another listing for blues songs that came in an email last Thursday:
MUSIC SUPERVISOR for a MAJOR CABLE NETWORK needs a BLUES-INSPIRED ROCK SONG for the OPENING TITLE (THEME SONG) of a NEW REALITY TV SERIES. The show focuses on tough men, tough women, muscle cars, running a small and scrappy business, competing, and living on the edge. They need a TRADITIONAL BLUES-INSPIRED ROCK SONG with MALE or FEMALE vocals in the spirit of ZZ Top, Hank Williams III, Junior Brown, Shooter Jennings, Ray Wylie Hubbard, and Stevie Ray Vaughn. Instrumentals are NOT needed at this time. Think SOUTHERN ROCK with a MACHO TEXAS flair. Songs with a GUITAR-CENTRIC, BALLSY ATTITUDE and GRITTY feel are key. MID to UPTEMPO will work best for this. Keep the energy upbeat and your hooks memorable. Keep your submissions EDGY and appeal to the WORKING CLASS but DO NOT use any profanity. REMEMBER: this is for cable TV! Ideally, your lyrics reflect the themes of the show listed above. This is DIRECT to the MUSIC SUPERVISOR. If your song is chosen as the theme song, you will receive between $500-$1500 upfront plus 100% of your publishing and writers share. TAXI TIP: Include Bio and links to any additional web sites that may help to showcase your talent. Broadcast Quality is needed (excellent home recordings are fine). You must own or control 100% of the master and composition rights to your submissions. Do NOT copy or rip off the referenced artists in any way (or you will be turned over directly to Walker, Texas Ranger)... All submissions will be screened on a yes/no basis (no full critiques) by a person hand-picked directly by the MUSIC SUPERVISOR. Please submit 1-3 songs online to TAXI no later than Tuesday, June 12th, 2012 at 10AM (PDT). TAXI #Y120612BR
Please notice that this has a different listing number.
Is there any possibilty that you started working on a song for this listing and some confusion was created by the listing sent out this morning ending in 613BL??
Also, after the fact revisions to listings seem to be pretty rare, and seem to be sent out as a clarification rather than a wholesale change.
HTH,
Chuck
And, sorry if this is a little more wordy than the previous poster's message.

TAXI Listing #Y120613BL
MUSIC SUPERVISOR for a MAJOR CABLE NETWORK needs a TEXAS-BASED BAND or TEXAS-BASED COMPOSER to SCORE a GRITTY TEXAS-BASED REALITY SHOW. The music supervisor wanted to run THIS listing is to help find a COMPOSER to create the show's SCORE
Theme vs Score. These are two completely separate listings with two completely different set of requirements. There are many television shows where the composer is not the guy that wrote the theme.
Using your real name on a public forum to call the listing company un-cool and un-professional is, well... an interesting way to make an introduction.

FWIW, Taxi is a VERY member-friendly company. I've had few issues but they're always done their best to address my concerns when I've contacted them and I've seen plenty of postings here over the years from other members that have had that same experience.

Re: changed the rules on a posting after several days #Y120613BL
I stand corrected. Yes, it was 2 different listings.
But it was also very confusing! And MY interpretation, based on the 2nd listing, (and of course I could be totally wrong) is that they want Texas all the way. Since that 2nd listing was so emphatic, I don't know why the producer would INSIST on a Texas artist for the score, but be okay with an artist from anywhere to do the theme for the show. I'm assuming they will select an artist for the score who will ultimately also write the theme. I'm just sayin'...

It doesn't seem confusing to me at all. One listing asks for SONGS with a Texas flair. The other asks for Texas based COMPOSERS. 2 listings, 2 different sets of requirements, even if for the same show.joecox wrote:I stand corrected. Yes, it was 2 different listings.

Instead of apologizing for your own mistake, you continued to point the finger at Taxi after calling THEM unprofessional. That’s a bit ironic, don’t you think?
And if you were confused about the listings, you could have contacted Taxi at their 800 number for clarification.

MUSIC SUPERVISOR for a MAJOR CABLE NETWORK needs a TEXAS-BASED BAND or TEXAS-BASED COMPOSER to SCORE a GRITTY TEXAS-BASED REALITY SHOW. Did we mention that it’s based in Texas? You may have seen the other listing we had for the theme song for the show. The music supervisor wanted to run THIS listing is to help find a COMPOSER to create the show's SCORE. The show focuses on tough men, tough women, muscle cars, running a small and scrappy business, competing, and living on the edge. I-M-P-O-R-T-A-N-T: ONLY composers/bands residing in TEXAS will be considered because the entire production is based in TEXAS. No exceptions. Quoting the music supervisor, "The producer is set on keeping things as ‘Texas’ as possible so we are appealing to only Texas-based artists and ‘buzz’ bands." They need TRADITIONAL BLUES-INSPIRED ROCK INSTRUMENTALS in the spirit of ZZ Top, Hank Williams, III, Junior Brown, Shooter Jennings, Ray Wylie Hubbard, and Stevie Ray Vaughn. Think SOUTHERN ROCK with a MACHO TEXAS flair. Songs with a GUITAR-CENTRIC, BALLSY ATTITUDE and GRITTY feel are key. Submit INSTRUMENTALS that showcase your skills as a COMPOSER. All tempos will be considered BUT songs must have a cinematic feel that will work well to picture. Create engaging emotional moods, tones, textures and atmospheres with your instrumentation while maintaining a traditional Blues-Rock vibe. Be sure to keep your instrumental performances and melodies out of the way of potential dialogue. At the end of the day, they are looking for someone who can compose original music for the many different scenarios of this show. Keep your submissions EDGY and appeal to the WORKING CLASS. Displaying a diversity of moods, tempos, and style is essential. Instruments must sound real and authentic. If chosen, you will NOT be asked to score each episode scene-by-scene. You will be creating a customized LIBRARY of various cues expressing different moods, themes, etc. The estimated fee is $10,000-20,000 for this project. TAXI TIP: Include Bio and links to any additional web sites that may help to showcase your talent. INSTRUMENTALS MUST HAVE EXCELLENT BROADCAST QUALITY. Please submit 1-3 songs online to TAXI no later than Wednesday, June 13th, 2012 at 10AM (PDT).

Re: changed the rules on a posting after several days #Y120613BL
Joe, in this case, the rules weren't changed at ALL, but rest assured if they had been , it's not like TAXI would have changed them arbitrarily. The only way we would change what a listing says was if we made a typo or the listing party needed to make a change in what they needed musically. That can happen as a script changes, or a rough cut proves that the storyline falls flat and needs a change.
It rarely happens, but I won't say that it never happens. But in this case, in my opinion, the listings were clearly written, and your fellow members seemed to understand what they both said.
Casey,
I honestly can't remember the last time—if EVER—that somebody apologized to TAXI on this forum! It's always us... goes with the territory I guess.
People tend to think companies aren't owned or run by human beings. Companies = corporate and bad. If you hurt their reputation for no good reason, no biggie.
Our V.P. of Film/TV music just sent me this when he heard about this thread:
Both Y120612BR and Y120613BL are indeed for the same TV series. However, Y120612BR is a listing for the THEME song. Only songs with vocals/lyrics should be submitted for Y120612BR. The other listing Y120613BL is a listing seeking a COMPOSER for the show. Only instrumentals should be submitted --- AND --- the producers have requested that the composer be based in Texas. This Texas requirement does NOT apply to artists submitting the theme song for Y120612BR -- just composers submitting instrumentals for Y120613BL.
**********************************
Thanks to the people who read the listing carefully for clarifying this for Joe in advance of this post.
"I don't know why the producer would INSIST on a Texas artist for the score, but be okay with an artist from anywhere to do the theme for the show." -- Joe Cox
My guess would be that they are going to shoot in Texas and the producer wants to meet with the composer every week and give input on the music for each episode. They only need to approve the theme one time.
And before anybody gets the bright idea of reaching out to producers shooting shows in Texas, the music supervisor has been a TAXI screener and is a good friend. The supervisor doesn't suffer fools easily, so while one might be tempted to do an end run around the competition, you'd likely be getting yourself blacklisted on that network and all of their affiliates. Be cool my brothers and sisters.

I've been called a lot of things, but unprofessional isn't one of them. Actually, neither is rude. Make sure to introduce yourself at the Road Rally. I applaud you for having the guts to use your real name. Most people who call me names hide behind a fake moniker.
