Changes possible after forward?

Post by hemp-t » Mon Oct 08, 2012 6:33 am

G'day everyone

So great to see such a supportive community, thought I'd throw out a line.

I got my first song forwarded a few weeks back, a solo piano ditty, obviously happy with that!

The screener commented that the sound was a little harsh at times and maybe I should fix that up. I kind of agree, but I'd really love to go back and loosen up the tempo. Also since I submitted it, I've completely upgraded my sample libraries :D and I've got a whole new instrument which would work much better.

My question is, is it possible to fix up a track after it's been forwarded ie before it gets to the client? Failing that, on the off-chance it gets picked up, would they be likely to be interested in an alternate version?

Just hate having stuff out there that I'm not 100% about!

Cheers
Tim

Hi Tim,

To answer your questions...

No, you can't change what's already been forwarded to a client. Understand Taxi starts screening upon submission, not after the deadline. That's how they keep up. So ideally don't submit something until it's completely done as Taxi may very well hear (and perhaps forward) your uncorrected version.

Yes, you'll have to work out terms anyway so you can mention an alternate version but make sure you still have the original somewhere as that may be all they want/have time for. If you really want to tweak your piece for later submissions (a forward does not mean a deal so by all means feel free to put this same piece into other listings unless an exclusive deal happens), I would suggest making a COPY of the original and tweaking that instead. You don't want to have to try and get back to where you started originally which may be tough.

That being said, a forward is no guarantee that you'll ever hear from anybody whatsoever (obviously others were forwarded also). It's more or less just a foot in the door. Just keep writing, submitting, and getting forwards (that's the tough part obviously ;) ) and don't get hung up on any one company/piece of music/person/etc. If they want to use your music they'll contact you (my experience has been it's usually via email but I'm sure every supervisor has their own way of doing things).

Hope that helps. - Roger

P.S. Btw the main place a supervisor looks for your information is in the file itself. So make sure you have your meta data included in any file you submit to Taxi (especially contact information like your name and email). You'll make their lives easier which certainly works in your favor.
