Chaos listing, due today, 1st mix
Hey guys, I'm a little blurry eyed, got back from NH @ 3 AM (recording vocals) and slapped together this quick mix. I'm gonna take a nap and then remix with fresh ears. The mix sounds a little "tinny" or thin to me like it needs more bottom end but I like a lotta bottom . So let me know what you think, all comments welcome.... GeoP.S. I should change my name to last minute Geo, I gotta get stuff done earlier !!SONGS in ALL STYLES about chaos, crumbling down, falling apart, disintegration, etc. are sought by an LA-based Music Library owned by veterans of that industry. A good example is "Burning Down The House" by the Talking Heads. Great performances are essential, especially vocally. They offer a non-exclusive, 50/50 split deal -- you keep your original copyrights. Broadcast quality needed. Please submit one to three songs online or per CD, include lyrics. All submissions will be screened on a YES/NO BASIS ONLY -- NO CRITIQUES FROM TAXI. For ground submissions, please enclose a S.A.S.E. if you would like a response. Submissions must be received no later than Jan. 8, 2008.I hate the NO CRITIQUEs http://www.taximusic.com/song.php?song_ ... am=trueLet the Walls Come Down (No More)Lyrics and music by George Daniels© 198something, 2007Verse 1Grandma come here quickly, a little boy stands at the wall,His gaze is fixed upon that hill, will he willingly die for us all.No more.... should we kneel divided,No more.... should we embrace just one,No more.... should we be fooled by plastic smiles,No more.... should we let others die for what we’ve done.Swing open the doors and let the walls come down.Verse 2Grandma did you see it, did you see the monuments fall?Did you hear victory declared, witness chaos when the victory stalled? No more.... should we believe what’s spoken,No more.... should we embrace the gun,No more.... should we humor the madman’s whim,No more.... should we be punished for what he’s done.ChorusSwing open the doors and let the walls come down.Tumbling down to the ground, let the walls come down. Swing open the doors and let the walls come down. And build no more.Swing open the doors and let the walls come down. And build no more.Verse 3No more.... should we sit on the sidelines,No more.... should we just blame everyone,No more.... should we ignore the Master’s kiss,No more.... should there be darkness shine a light on all we’ve done.Chorusgeosongwriter@verizon.net

Hi Geo, I submitted to this listing as well.. I would agree with your comment regarding the mix being "tinny". You could definitely fatten the bass, yet it sounds like it has more to do with the overall blend of the other insts., clarity and separation. The guitar seems kind of "washed out" a bit as well which might be over powering the blend as mentioned above. You've probably put the tune up so it may be too late to "tweak" by the time you read this or subsequent comments to your thread. Over all it's a cool tune, keep it going as a WIP and put it up for future listings!Check my tune out if you get a chance, a link on a thread started yesterday regarding the same listing. Or, just check it out from here!!http://www.myspace.com/earthtoneproductionsongsSuburban DeathGood Luck!!Monty

Hey "G"Listened to the track. I would agree. Definitely needs some more bottom, and possibly a slight cut in the highs. Otherwise, it's got a good feel to it. Screener might let you have it on the pitchy vocs in certain spots. Just my opinion though. Good luck to you!ibanez468

Re: Chaos listing, due today, 1st mix
Hey there...good song...a few mix issues....the vocal is quiet at the beginning, but changes by 3/4 the way through....the hihat sound is sticking out, because the other drums are quiet...the snare sound needs to be more present and replaced if you have time...snare louder than hihat... and not sounding similar to hihat....I would work on a killin' sub-mix for the drums....then squash it...bring up low end instruments...kick and bass....work on highs in guitars....add reverb to end of vocal phrases.....make sure vocal is loud enough throughout....hard limit the entire mix at the end....good luck....with some mix attention....IOM you're on for the listing...Vicky

Is that all Vicky ? Thanks, I'm on the clock and ready to go, very detailed post, thanks. Normally my mixes have way too much bottom so I'm swinging the pendulum the other way I guess.Yeah Ibanez "Screener might let you have it on the pitchy vocs in certain spots. Just my opinion though. Good luck to you!" they always do, if you come back could you point out the most glaring, I heard a few tails and the backups in the first verse? My ear sucks (I'm not tone deaf, just toneally challenged ) so any help is appreciated. Thanks guys.... Geo

Just so you know I updated the link with the new mix, some of the most glaring pitchy-ness was on a third harmony track which I dropped but I still hear a couple of spots so we'll redo the vocal and swap the song out (hopefully before review), thanks for the help... Geo

Hey "G",Sorry to get back to ya' so late. I'm sure you've already submitted the piece. But here's what I heard upon first listening. And I am by no means a vocal expert or any other type of expert for that matter, so take it FWIW :at around the :44-45 sec mark - the words "come down" start to go a leeetle flat. Mostly what I hear is in the lead vocals, when you're holding those long notes. Some start to move toward the sharp(#) side of the note. They tend to start dead on the note and then waver on the sharp side. "Gotta hold 'em steady". I know it's tough to do sometimes. Lemme' put it this way. If I can "hear" it, somebody else is probably gonna' "hear" it. On the other hand, they may not. Ya' might just get away with it. Hard to say. Just throwin' in my .02 cents, which of course these days, you know ain't worth nuthin'. In any event, good luck to ya', and keep pumpin' 'em out bro. ibanez468

Re: Chaos listing, due today, 1st mix
Thanks for coming back, Ibanez, yeah I thought the tails were a little shakey and BTW I'm not singing so don't worry about the feelings. JT was one of my original band members 10 years ago and we've been hooked up again for 6 months now but unfortunately with the holidays we only had one shot at the vocals (and not much rehersal time) but plan to redo them over the weekend. I think there's an 80's listing due next week that I might send it out on as well so I still want to get a good version "in the can". Thanks for the help.... Geo

geo....sorry it took awhile to get back to you....I listened after you repostedI don't think you hard limited the mix at the end....that would help mash the parts ...It's quiet when i play it next to other songs....I recommend doing the AB thang....with your highs and lows....good luck....I like the song....vocals may need more parts....Vicky
