The odds of getting an artist cut as an unknown writer are one in many thousands. I agree that you would need to maybe move to Nashville, immerse yourself in the music scene, build relationships, get it on co-writes, etc. Jason Blume talks about living on spaghetti for 10 years before his first cut. With or without Taxi, it's one of the hardest things out there to achieve.melodymessiah wrote: ↑Thu Nov 21, 2019 3:36 pmwell, i hope you don't have too high hopes for a placement. i've realized that unless you're one of the top writers, pitching to artists (especially majors) are pretty pointless. it's all about building a personal relationship with the artists, and cowrite. i've seen industry professionals say the same, they don't take pitches from other than they're trusted sources very seriously. it makes me wonder why they bother to place the listings in the first place. this is why i'm not a taxi member anymore. saying that, i also think your chorus could stand out more from the rest of the song.
However, the education alone from writing to listings and receiving professional feedback is pure gold. Your comment above that the chorus could stand out more is exactly that point. Thousands of people join Taxi all the time hoping to get an artist cut. What they quickly find out is their songs, which they thought walked on water, weren't very good at all, at least not at the level they would need to be. This is where Taxi adds incredible value. Most give up and drop out, concluding either that the screeners are full of it, or they just realize they can't meet the bar- don't want to do the incredibly hard work. However, those who persist and get to the point where they at least get forwards to high bar artist cut listings, have learned one of the most valuable things you can learn. How to write a song that at least might be worthy of being in the game.
If you combine being in the game with the relationship building, etc. you certainly have a much better chance than if you went at it with poor or mediocre songs.
I would not tell someone not to join or renew Taxi solely because their goal is an artist cut. I would tell them if they are not willing to learn with an open mind and do the unbelievably hard work, they won't be successful with Taxi or any method.
And as we know (I see your posts about collab on here), Taxi (forum and rally) is a great place to build relationships with co-writers, producers, vocalists, etc. Yes, you can be on this forum without being a Taxi member and continue to enjoy that benefit. You can even attend the rally as a guest. You pay $0 for it all. My PERSONAL feeling is paying $200 a year to support the company that brings you all this, is well worth it. It's a pet peeve of mine (could be just me) is when people don't renew but go on using all the benefits.
I do wish you the best in your dream to get that cut. I would be incredibly happy for you. I mean that very sincerely. We all in this community love sharing in each other's successes.
