Christmas Instrumental Forward

Post by stansongman » Tue Nov 06, 2018 1:31 pm

This was an interesting one. I submitted three songs, and this was the one I was most on the fence about, but it was the only one forwarded. Just goes to show you.

Here's the track: https://soundcloud.com/stansongman/holi ... ar/s-zOg8v

The other two tracks were lighter, more like box store holiday ads.

Here's the listing:

Y180920XI
ORIGINAL CHRISTMAS INSTRUMENTALS are needed by a high-end Music Licensing Company with a very long and impressive list of great placements in TV, Film, and Commercials. They’re looking for Mid-to-Up-Tempo Instrumentals that have the general style and vibe of the following references: NOTE: We recently ran this request as a TAXI Dispatch Listing (TAXI #D180822OC), but the company didn’t get enough material and asked us to run this request to our full membership list to see if we could find them even more. If you submitted to TAXI #D180822OC, please submit different material this time around! “Jingle Bell Rock” by Glee: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VfLf7A_-1Vw “Underneath the Tree” by Kelly Clarkson: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YfF10ow4YEo "Deck The Halls " by Tenth Avenue North: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q7dF1P0PHss Although the references above have vocals, this pitch is for instrumentals only. Please submit Original, festive Instrumentals that deliver a Christmas sound and style. Your top-notch productions should utilize arrangements you’d commonly hear in Christmas music, with instruments including (but not limited to) sleigh bells, hand bells, chimes, etc. Please avoid any overly busy parts in your arrangement, as they could distract from dialogue in a scene. Submissions should be between 2:00 and 4:00 minutes long, give or take. Non-Faded endings with a natural ring out will work best. Do not copy the references in any way, shape, or form. Use them only as general guide for overall feel, texture and tone. Broadcast quality is needed. This company offers an EXCLUSIVE deal. You'll split all upfront sync fees 50/50. The Publisher will get 100% of the Publisher's share, and you'll get 100% of the Writer's share. You must own or control your Master and Composition rights. Since this is an Exclusive deal, please be sure your material is NOT already signed with any other Libraries or Catalogs. Please submit as many Instrumentals as you’d like online or per CD. All submissions will be screened on a Yes/No basis - No full critiques. Submissions must be received no later than 11:59PM (PDT), on Thursday, September 20th, 2018. TAXI #Y180920XI

Congrats and great work! That's the way it goes - sometimes the tracks that do the best are the ones we were unsure about. Hence the whole 'write, submit, forget, repeat' thing as well as don't be too critical. You never know where your moneymakers will come from.

Congratulation. We cross our fingers for you. Good luck with the track.

This shows that the sounds doesn't have to be the most modern or up to date.
More often than not, it's all about finding the right energy and creating the right mood and building the right progress.
This track is truly Christmas. Wonderfully executed it would fit right in in our library.

Good point. I think Christmas / Holiday music can still get away with being a bit "dated" (I prefer the term retro) as it's one of those things where some sort of nostalgia is always welcome -- even if it's nostalgia for a time you never knew.

Good point. I think Christmas / Holiday music can still get away with being a bit "dated" , as in *not totally bleeding edge*, (I prefer the term retro) as it's one of those things where some sort of nostalgia is always welcome -- even if it's nostalgia for a time you never knew.

Thanks! It was interesting, because the other two songs were more current, something you'd hear on a Target commercial or something. But the Kelly Clarkson reference in the listing led me to go more for a more classic song, and I went for a wall of sound type of production. Super fun to produce!
