Christmas song listing - TAXI # Y080721CS

Post by rblight » Sun Jun 29, 2008 1:35 am

This add is requesting unique arrangements of new and/or traditional Xmas songs in the public domain. I have a ton of those in my portfolio, but I need to ask a few questions before i spend the money submitting them. First, I use Garageband for the Mac and to my ear, my compositions sound 'broadcast quality', but I am not sure if other would agree. The following song is an example - Angels we have Heard on High. I believe it meets the criteria for a forward in terms of arrangement. The main instruments are acoustic bass guitar, mandolin and flute. (These songs are all instrumentals). I have added a VERY UNIQUE bridge to this song that makes it even fresher. Still, I would like to get some feedback before submitting, especially from a reviewer if possible (not looking for a custom critique, just brief feedback. The opinions of other was welcome as well.(1) Would the following pass the 'Broadcast Quality' standard. If I decide to submit I will doing a remix in pro tools.(2) Is the arrangement unique enough to satisfy the criteria of the people who listed the add? Thanks in advance,http://www.taximusic.com/song.php?song_ ... 6&stream=1

Hey rblight,Being that I've been pushing xmas music of my own for the past several years, and have had quite a few forwards, and signed a number of deals with music libraries, let me say this:While I'd say the recording would be considered broadcast quality and the arrangement is what they're looking for, many of the songs that got returned to me were the ones that were too midi/mechanical sounding. That may be a sticking point for this particular song. Aside from it being a midi recording, it's lacking in dynamics. Everything stays at the same volume and could use some human touch. Hope this helps,Harry

Harry,Thanks for the feedback. I think I would agree with you on every point. I think that the midi feel problem can be overcome by making more extensive use of loops and/or replacing certain software instruments with live ones. The software guitars in GB are very un-guitar-like and unless you have a real touch and feel for things, the differences in velocity will be noticeable. Pro quality royalty free loops on the other hand sound real because they basically are real. It takes a lot of cutting and pasting to get the right sound sometimes though.Again, thanks for the feedback and good luck with your Xmas stuff.
