Quote:I don't know, maybe some of you guys can take a listen and give me some pointers on the sound/production that might help me in the future. I know I've got a long way to go but I'm trying to be a student of the craft.Hi Rebekah. I enjoyed your piece although I agree that it sounded more like a polka. But I haven't been on a carousel for a while and I don't remember the playlist on that one that well I had a listen to some of your pieces and I think you are a very accomplished pianist and musician. A couple of your pieces really have that passion that you talk about in your bio.The streaming mp3 quality from TAXI isn't that great so I can't make detailed comments about the production but there are a few general things I noticed:1. The overall sound is pretty bright, it appears to be in the 3-6Khz range, which is right in the range where the ear is already sensitive. This may be exacerbated by the mp3 quality but I think overall you could use some EQ cutting in that area. 2. Overall your sounds are good but not great. As I'm sure you know, learning the production end of things is pretty much like learning another instrument. If you haven't studied production much or at all, there may be classes at the local college that can give you a foundation and some hands on experience with mixing, etc. that you can directly apply to your own productions. Keep up the good work, looking forward to hearing more.Mazz

imagine if John Williams and Trent Reznor met at Bernard Hermann's for lunch and Brian Eno was the head chef!

Quote:Dear Steve, Unfortunately, the following song was not forwarded to Dispatch listing # D070330IN.OohLaLaBand I missed the target by a country mile, again! Is this the one that sounded like two separate cuts in one track? It might have been that the odd deal with it sounding like two separate songs was the culprit. When I listened to it, that didn't seem to me like it would fly.Personally I thought that the first "section" was on target. You might have to consider the good possibility that you missed the target by only a whisker. Unfortunately it doesn't take a country mile to miss a listing and I think that might have been the case here - the odd format and not so much the music . Dave

Quote:hi jbeck,I have to say, I've found this thread really interesting. I had a listen to 'Catch me if you can'. It's very nicely done, but it made me think of Austrian chaps in leather shorts leaping around more than it did a circus. Not that that's a bad thing, but maybe it didn't help in this particular case. (love Carrie's song, btw )Thanks for the input..I wrote that little tune at the last minute for that listing just for the heck of it..so I shouldn't be surprised it was off base just a tad!!!Glad you liked Carrie's Song..that one was inspired after watching a 1995 Winona Ryder flick (How To Make An American Quilt)BTW, I checked out your music too....very nice..liked it a lot!
