Good songs Lee !I've been playing/singing both Honky Tonk Woman and Wonderful Tonight for many years for my club dates and corporate gigs ( been doing mostly Jazz & Blues for the last 10 years )...You did a very good job on both.Best of luck to you with this !!I'm sure this will be a high bar listing and they will receive many submissions for this one...So I assume it will be a tough one...I posted my tunes in the '' Dispatch'', section.P.S. To Steve à Gilbert Quote:This guy was on American Idol last nite. He brought the house down with a new-fangled version of Billie Jean.Steve I hope you don't actually watch American Idol ...Tu me fait de la peine ( That breaks my heart !) Cheers, MG

Hello From a New Member:I have really enjoyed reading your forum comments and suggestions. May I get your input concerning 60's classic covers?I am a member of a 60's group called The Brymers. During one of our sessions in 1965 the group recorded 16 covers of the hits of the day (mainly for ourselves). The Brymers are mainly known for a punkrock tract recorded in 1967 called Sacrifice. Do you see many publishing houses looking for this 60's sound or 60's covers? The Brymers currently have two CD's out. Once CD is titled: Sacrifice and the second CD is titled The Brymers: "Where Are They Now." As mentioned before, I am new to the forum and attempting to see if this sound is ever needed by publishing houses. Many thanks to any suggestions or direction.Dick Leerleekgb@comcast.netwww.thebrymers.com

Hi there Eugene/new member: I will attempt to answer your questions, but I am no expert here in forum land either. From what I can tell so far, there most likely are opportunities for your music to be placed in Film/TV listings. My advice is to use that music you had recorded in '65 when a listing comes up that specifies they are looking for songs that not only are msucially and lyrically similar to 60s songs, but also capture the sonic qualities of that time period. I would guess you recorded on big old 24 tk tape machines, with mixing and processing and other outboard gear from that time. I know when I listen to old recordings of say Aretha Franklin I can actually hear the tape compression on her vocal, that now-a-days is a lost art. Anyway, the deal seems to be that the music must be really good (obviously) but also you must target your listings very accurately. If you employ these two factors, you will be on the right track. I also advise you to use this forum a ton, get to know some of the more experienced folks...go look at the people who are getting forwards, listen to their songs, and honestly assess where you are, and how you match up. Don't be discouraged if you dont get tons of forwards right away. Figure the exact listing you are looking for will be a rare item, and even then you are still competing against many other listings submissions. I hope this helps, and I hope this is good advice...coming from someone who's only had a few forwards in 3+ years, i am not an expert yet at all. I am enjoying the process, keeping my focus there, rather than the results. BestLeePS Oh yeah I forgot to mention one other important factor to consider for "cover song" listings. My 2 songs here were returned. If I had to guess I'd say the feedback I got here in the forum was right on, in that my versions were real close "copies" of the songs. The feedback I got suggested that they may be looking for arrangements where people put their own stylistic elements into the song, while still keeping it easily recognizable. This was a good lesson for me, hope it helps you too!
