Cloudlifter

Check out the Cloudlifter, 25dB of ultra-clean gain, provided by phantom power from your mixer, preamp or interface. Doubles as a barrier that prevents phantom power from popping your ribbons.

There is also a stereo version.

For a limited time, Cascade microphones is practically giving these away with their tres cool ribbon mics; an exclusive for TapeOp readers: http://www.cascademicrophones.com/TAPEO ... _page.html

I do not, but I hear great things, and the Blumlein pair is on the wishlist; nothing captures a sweaty, snarling Class A guitar amp like a ribbon mic, and they're pretty amazing as drum overheads, too.

I have a FatHead.

I also have that Cascade ribbon mic you guys are talking about!

I like it. I don't have a Cloud Lifter but I've used the FatHead on the trumpet and accordion and it sounds good. I have a dbx tube preamp that's pretty good, it has a digital output which is one of the reasons I bought it. I haven't had a problem with gain or noise. It's a good mic, particularly for the money. It won't put Royer out of business any time soon, but it's an inexpensive way to get another color in your mic arsenal.

imagine if John Williams and Trent Reznor met at Bernard Hermann's for lunch and Brian Eno was the head chef!

it's not the gear, it's the ear!
