Cold Feet - Link Fixed

Post by cameron » Sun Sep 14, 2008 10:58 am

Hello all,Here's a new country song I've been working on. I know my vocals aren't right for the part, but they're the only pipes I got. Just want some opinions on whether it's worth shelling out for a studio demo-- or possibly using my existing demo and replacing my vocals with a pros.As always any feedback at all is much appreciated, and PLEASE don't be afraid to be totally honest.Camhttp://www.taximusic.com/song.php?song_id=168558&stream=trueSo you thought you'd found the perfect girlbeen planning your big dayBut now you see a big red flag waving awayand you've got cold feetyou've got cold feetYou make a big committmentyou gotta live with everydaydon't ignore the warning signsthat's all I have to sayif you've got cold feetbetter keep on movin'if you've got cold feetBefore you're too far down the roadif it don't feel rightyou better let it goif you've got cold feetdon't try to fight itif it just feels wrongdon't try to right ityou just keep runnin'when you get cold feetyou keep on movin' when you get cold feetSo if you find your perfect bridehas too much to saydoesn't like your familyor you wish she'd go awayand you get cold feetkeep on movin'if you get cold feetIf somewhere down the lineyou get a sinking feeling that's a telling signwhen you get cold feetlisten to your heart sonmake sure that she's the right onejust keep runnin'when you get cold feetyou keep on movin'when you get cold feetInstrumentalBefore you're too far down the roadtake a lesson from a man who knowsif you've got cold feetdon't try to fight itif it just feels wrongdon't try to right ityou just keep runnin'if you get cold feetyou keep on movin' if you get cold feet

Cam.... awesome hook! Yes, this song is worth an upgrade to pro demo!I agree with Bill about the contrasting lyrics to help punch it up, and for that same reason I think you could probably do more with trying to create stronger images... using feet and "the road" as jumping off points... For example, not feeling comfortable in your shoes... or coming up with road signs that are telling you where to go... yield, danger, stop, and NO U TURN! Just some ideas.... good stuff!

Hi CamI like the song and the Johnny Cash vibe. My overall reaction is, as much as it is a good song, to compete as a Nashville pitch it needs to be chorus driven & that chorus has to be a knockout. So I think if the verses didn't go to the "cold feet" tag but led up to a BIG chorus based on that phrase, you'd have a much better shot. I know this means some major surgery and it's easier said than done. The F-Em-Dm-C thing (based on key of C) you have in there is one of those overused things that my personal taste would be to avoid. That might be just me.As you know, I am not a country guy...HTHJMHOFWIW(Did I cover all the mnemonics?) Casey

Hey CamI was referring to the F to C walkdown (as Maceman pointed out)... sorry... That's what I called the F-Em-Dm-C thing. That's really a minor thing anyway...I think what's bothering me is I don't really know where the chorus is. If it's the section starting with "Before you're too far down the road", it just doesn't feel like a chorus-- more bridge-like.Not being negative- I like it. I'm putting on my pitch to Nashville publisher hat... They either hear a killer chorus or toss it.Where I think this would do a lot better is film/TV. The overall sound and the repeating "got cold feet" could make it a fit there. For film/TV, they still want excellent songs, but the focus of the listening is sometimes different. A song about "cold feet" might fit the bill somewhere.BTW, I struggle with the same issues every day. I have a number of unfinished songs where getting the chorus to be strong enough is a battle. Heck, if it was easy we'd all have hit songs. Best,Casey

Hey CamI think getting a pro-critique is a great idea. Also, I don't see a negative at all if a tune is 'just' a potential film/TV track. As you mentioned, you know the odds against an artist cut are astronomical, even for the best songs. If you create something with a particular mood, feel, and lyric phrase that catches the interest of a music library your odds fall into the realm of "it could really happen". Like Dean said, when you finally get it demo'd (after any tweaks you decide on), get a master release. It may cost you more, but it will give you a lot more bang for your demo buck. Don't get "cold feet" about it!! (OK, bad joke )... Casey
