I'll let Blue Barry reply on the guitar question, but, regarding the vox - I forgot to mention I was actually wondering about Aub's comment about the "vocals seeming apart from the track." Wasn't quite sure at first how to fix that, but I guess we could do something with compression settings like you said. Any other thoughts on how to add some glue?Thanks-ARSome light compression on the main mix buss might help. You might also try an ambient, transparent short reverb on everything but kick and bass. Turn the sends up until you can barely hear the verb, then back it down a db or two. Something that subtle can often give the aural impression that everything is in the same space.Aub Thanks Aub! I've been experimenting with my SSL4000 Compressor on the Master Buss as the last step in my mastering chain and I think it's gonna do the trick. Thanks again for all of your helpful comments and suggestions, they are much appreciated.- Big Blue

BB,Can't wait to hear the remix. Drop C huh?? That's awesome ha ha! I've experimented with drop d but never have ventured that low I don't think. And I'll be... Guitar Rig huh? Well, I gotta say you've made me a believer of it! I played with version 1 and.. although it sounds funny to say this now.. I seriously thought the distorted sounds were just too thin!! (For that matter I have a POD 2.0 and I've had a problem with heavy sounds on most modelers not sounding right. That's why I sold my Boogie DC-5 and bought the Boogie Studio Preamp to record direct.)And what you mentioned above on creating space for guitars.. that's something I've studied a lot online (i.e. complitmentary EQ'ing and such) but have not mastered. Maybe I need to stop by and have a talk with Fett ha ha!Thanks for sharing man!

Maybe I need to stop by and have a talk with Fett ha ha!Thanks for sharing man!Hey Patrick,Here are the settings I used for the guitars...Shecter C-1 Artist Edition with the factory dual humbuckers (5-way switch)Left Channel - "Instant Gratifier" with Vintage Crunch (bridge pickup)Right Channel - "Instant Gratifier" with Modern Scoop (middle pickup)Melody Guitar during bridge - "instant Gratifier" with Modern Scoop (bridge pickup)Breakdown - "Ultrasonic" with Crunch O'Sonic (bridge)I don't think I tweaked the presets at all. I also used the Izotope Trash plug-in on the Breakdown guitar part, as well as a the stock 7 band Digi EQ on the guitars to roll off some low's and high's and boost some of the mid's (hat tip to AllenDS for some ideas he passed along for a different song). I never heard Guitar Rig 1 so I can't speak on that, but dude, Guitar Rig 3 is AWESOME! I've made a believer out of Fett with it too If you have the time to meet up with him, I'd encourage it. He's got a lot of knowledge and is just a cool guy to hang with as well.- Big Blue

Thanks Geo and Liam... I'm gonna take a few days off from tweaking the mix the mix, ya know, Christmas and everything, but next week I'll be posting the re-mixed version. Don't think we're quite to the moon... yet... but, I'm hoping that the air's about to get a little thinner! lol, I'm such a dork...- Big Blue

Barry, thanks for the presets man! Yeah I'll have to check out GR3 for sure. I'd it IS good if you turned Fett into a believer. I'll have to look him up sometime and stop by the studio.

Hey, Patrick. I remember from a previous post you're a fellow SONAR user. I'm about to upgrade to SONAR Producer 8, and it comes with the GR3 lite plug-in, so if you're along a similar upgrade path, you might be able to try-before-buy on GR3.

Update... This track was forwarded for both listings! WOO HOO!!!!http://taxi.proboards27.com/index.cgi?b ... d=11591I'm not sure if they heard the original version of the track or the re-mixed version that we did based off of some of the feedback we got from this thread. The original version can be heard at http://www.bigbluebarry.com/player.aspxThe re-mixed version can be heard at http://www.taximusic.com/song.php?song_ ... ream=trueI just wanted to take a minute and thank a few people...First off, of course, would be my partner in crime, Logan. Dude, this track would have never happened without you. I know I've told you this plenty of times but I gotta say it again... I LOVE YOUR VOICE MAN!!!! I wish we could have met sooner! I can't wait to get started on some more tracks with you my friend. I proclaim 2009 as the Year of Rock! Next, I'd like to thank Aub. Your post really inspired us to keep pushing forward on this song. We're in the process of tweaking the lyrics some more to get to that next level. Your comments on the drums inspired me to spend more time on mixing in general, especially as it relates to the drums. In doing so, I learned a few things that helped me to get a better drum sound, which is paying off for me on other tracks now as well. So thank you for the encouragement. And finally, I'd like to thank everyone who took the time to listen to the song and offer up their words of encouragement and advice. This forum has been a huge blessing to me this past year. It truly is an added value to the TAXI membership.Well, I guess that's all for this thread for now. Thanks again everyone!- Big Blue
