Controller not working with Reaper

Hi, guys
Everything was fine two days ago.
I was able to operate my Keystation49 in Reaper on my laptop.
I tried to hook up a USB condenser mic. I was not able to get the mic to work
so I shut off everything and went out.
Yesterday, I turned everything on and something is not right.
I am able to play a sound when I select record in Reaper.
I am able to use the transport buttons in Reaper.
I am not able to get any response from the Keystation volume slider or any of the transport buttons.
I have reset the controller several times and nothing is happening.
I am lost and confused.

Maybe this video will help. It's about setting up inside reaper. I suppose it is also possible to save and name your preferences so that you can use different controllers and set them up differently.

The problem is, if I select stop, for instance, when I press the stop button
it doesn't register the location to which it is supposed the save.

When I select any option or press any button, nothing happens.
The volume fader does not work. I've followed the M-Audio instructions.
It's like Reaper doesn't recognize the controller.

When I purchased the Keystation, I bought an extra one...just in case...
you can't find these things on this island.

I hooked up the second one and same thing...nothing.
I am able to use Reaper with the onboard transport...but it's not conveinent.

Billy, it's not the Maudio keyboard. when you open reaper, make sure that you are have the maudio controller selected.

Click the "Options" tab on the top of the graphic user interface, then select "Preferences."

Select "MIDI Devices" under the "Audio" section on the left side of the "Preferences" screen.

Double-click on the name of your MIDI interface from the top section of that screen to open the "Configure MIDI Input" screen. Click the box next to "Enable MIDI input from this device" to place a check mark, then click "OK." Your MIDI keyboard will now be ready to start sending Reaper note and control change information.

Now you have to map your transport buttons and volume fader. you go to the menu item "Actions". for the stop button, you go through and select the action you want the stop button on the keystation to do, presumably stop, but it could be any action. then you click add, a box pops up and you press the stop button on the keystation, it then records the action to that button and save. you go through all the buttons doing the same, selecting the action and selecting the button for that action, for the volume fader you select a volume action and move the fader. you are "midi mapping". some daws have midi maps already constructed for some popular instruments, generally the keys like C1, G3... are mapped by default, but you can theoretically map them with something else, like many lower keys out of range of the instruments are mapped as key switches, that change an articulation by changing programs.

I have done this, buy when press the button it does not save, the box stays the same, it doesn't save or respond at all.

I have decided to just use the Reaper on-board transport and move on.

Hey Billy,

Have you checked the Reaper forums? They are usually full of useful tips for getting things working.

A few other things to consider:

1. Did you change which USB port the controller plugged into when you used the USB mic? It *shouldn't* make a difference, but sometimes it does.
2. Did you get dust/fuzz in the USB port or cable? It could conceivably screw up communication while still powering up the controller... I know it sounds ridiculous, but stranger things have happened :)
