Copywriting?

Just curious ... I am new to TAXI and look forward to uploading music very soon, but should I be copywriting it first?

It's safest to register, even though you own the copyright from the moment your song is created-registering your copyright gives you proof of the date of creation; a Broadcast WAV time-stamp should do as well, but hasn't been tested in court, so your mileage may vary. For most practical purposes, nobody wants a song that isn't a hit already; you should be so lucky that someone thinks your song is worth stealing. (really, only an idiot would try, if you think it through-if they steal it and have a hit, they'll then be expected to write another) In other words, an unproven song is essentially worthless; a copyright is worth something, but only after a lot of money has been spent to promote the song.Welcome to the forums!

The industry folks in Nashville tell me that copyrighting unpublished songs is something that only amateurs do. Being the amateur that I am though, I'll save 'em up until I have three or four and then copyright them as a collection. Cost $35 and it's pretty painless through the new electronic filing system (http://www.copyright.gov/eco/) once you figure out its quirks.Cam

I like getting those nicely printed sheets of paper from the US Copyright office! IRSC codes are nice to have embedded also.le Hook

Thanks for the feedback, peeps! Grouping a handful for $35 sounds like a good fit for me. (Since I happen to think everything I write is Platinum-bound, haha (o;) I can't wait to get my feet wet 'round here ...
