I can share some of my songs to show you why TAXI forwards some of my work -- but no country.BetteThe genres/styles you mentioned are all in greater demand than country, and there are way fewer writers doing them. If you plan to make money with your music, country's probably the last thing you should try to write, particularly if it doesn't come natural.I do all my own demos, and other peoples', too.

Mojobone, thanks for your advice. My problem is that Country publishers are more open to simple demos of good songs. Most TAXI listings in other genres want bands and artists. Even when they aren't looking for acts, they still want the whole package -- good recordings of great arrangements with great performers. My a cappella or voice/autoharp chord demos are fine for people I pay to do my actual demos, but not not for publishers and artists looking for new songs.I'd love to hook up with a band but the ones around central Indana have their own songs and don't have time to record mine, although some of them perform mine live.Bette

Hmmm, yes, TV and Film opportunities are more common in those genres, but they're seeking fully-produced tracks. Sounds like you need a production partner. Is there someplace I can hear your stuff?

I'm still trying to figure this out. I have songs on my TAXI hosting site and MP3s on my computer. Oh yes, my web page is still crude but you can hear a lot of my demos on www.BetteAnderson.comCheck songs: samples. But the TAXI site includes lyrics so I'd like to learn how to post songs from it.Bette

Mojobone, I just noticed you're a Hoosier too. Where are you located? I'm in Kokomo and belong to SAMI in Lafayette. Bette

There are lots of great demo studios in Nashville, as already mentioned. Listen to their work and pick one whose demos knock you out. Going rate is $500-700 for a full band demo, depending on how elaborate you get with your instrumentation. You can do a simple guitar/vocal or piano/vocal demo for lots less. My personal opinion is you need a full band demo unless it's a slow ballad. No matter what, get the best singer you can find. Nashville can't be beat for the price and quality. I use nashvilledemostudio.com, which is owned by Jimi Whitelaw, who used to be list administrator here. We each have our own personal tastes, but I really like the work they've done for me.Anytime you pitch songs in Nashville you are competing against the best. They submit full studio demos, and you will have virtually no chance with a homemade recording unless you are a very gifted producer.Cam

Haven't seen Christi for a while. She's been busy lately. Joe and Linda have been doing a lot of gigs without her. I miss seeing her. What name does she know you by?Is this group all right for this discussion or should we be somewhere else? It's pretty obvious, isn't it, that I am unfamiliar with forums like this.Bette
