Country or blues? Mid-1960s-Style COUNTRY POP SONGS

Post by Horacemix » Sun Aug 09, 2020 6:11 am

Hello everybody!
I found this listing and I have a huge doubt: why is this country?
If someone asked to name the genre for this one, I'd said "some sort of blues" ...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3FIkn3POuvs

What do you think? what genre is this?
Regards!

Here the listing:
Mid-1960s-Style COUNTRY POP SONGS with Male or Female Vocals are needed for a NON-Exclusive, Direct-to-Music Supervisor Placement in an Indie Feature Film.

TAXI doesn't normally take requests for music for Indie Films unless there is a sync fee paid to the music creators. If there are any sync fees paid for this project, they will likely be on the smaller side (we would guesstimate less than $1,000), with most of the income earned via P.R.O. royalties paid down the road. However, this request comes from an excellent Music Supervisor who has a history of using music from TAXI's members. We think this is a great chance to (possibly) make some money upfront; and maybe, more importantly, it's an opportunity for this extremely busy Music Supervisor to get to know you and your music (and at the very least, make some performance income).

The Supervisor is currently looking for a Song that would work well as a replacement for “I Wonder" which is currently temped in:

"I Wonder" by Brenda Lee

NOTE: The Music Supervisor is NOT looking for clones or soundalikes! Similar tempo, feel, and overall vibe? Yes. Clones? No!

Please send well-written Songs with melancholy lyrics, great melodies, and authentic-sounding production. Your vocal deliveries should be well-performed and full of emotion. If you can imagine your Song being played during a slow dance on a dance floor in the mid-1960s, you might be onto something!

You can submit recently recorded Songs in the general production style of the references; or, if you’ve got any vintage recordings (recorded back in the day), they would love to hear those as well!

Avoiding references to specific names, dates, times, places, and profanity in your lyrics is strongly recommended. Please do NOT copy the referenced Song or artist in any way, shape, or form. Use the reference only as a general guide for tempo, texture, and tone. Era-Appropriate Broadcast Quality is needed!

This will be a Non-Exclusive, Direct-to-Music Supervisor placement, so you’ll get 100% of the Sync Fee (if applicable), you’ll keep 100% of your Publishing and Master ownership, and you’ll also get 100% of any applicable performance royalties. No Publisher splits! You must own or control the Master and Copyright to pitch for this opportunity. Please submit as many Songs as you’d like, online or per CD. All submissions will be screened and critiqued by TAXI. Submissions must be received no later than 11:59 PM (PDT) on Sunday, August 16th, 2020. TAXI # S200816CP

This is Pop-Country for those familiar, but, it could just as easily be Amy Winehouse! :P
Do a YouTube search on Peggy Lee and you hear the same feel ("Fever", though this mix seems Mono)
The Important things I get from the Reference:
Vocal Reverb needs to be exactly the same as the Ref to nail the time-period
This was recorded on a 4-Track deck so...
Piano/Drums panned hard LEFT
BG Vocals/Strings hard Right
Vocal/Bass dead CENTER
Cheers,
Cass

I could hear blues in there as well and googled the song
The song was written and originally recorded by Cecil Gant who was a 1940's bluesy jazzy guy.
