Crazy white noise problem with Pro Tools

Post by japaneseprincess » Fri Sep 18, 2009 2:45 pm

Has anyone had this problem before..? When i record arm a track, all of sudden theres a huuuuge white noise type thing blasting (clips way hard on the track) untill stop arming the track. it IS not a routing issue, my system has been stable for nearly 3 years without any hardware changes. and theres nothing strange about my ins and outs at all. the noise goes away, when i unplug mbox and connect again.Long time ago it happened when i first got mbox 2 and contacted digi, problem fixed by trashing digi databases/prefs/volume ddb. Peace lasted for 3 years and this is happening again, some sessions go fine but totally out of blue this happens, so im going deaf ! awwww.This has been discussed on the digi forum but the cause isnt clear. it looks like it happens randomly, some because of Firewire HD, not trashing digi folders, repair permission etc etc.. all cases are different and i didnt see anyone having the same situation as mine, i didnt change any hardwares and my Pro Tools always remain the same (i dont get upgrades. PT LE 7.1 has been so stable.) Digi recommends using their approved Firewire HD, but i never had any problems for 3 years with my small external drive.*sigh*

Does your mBox come with drivers? I don't know too much about Firewire / USB recording... yet, but I know that I've had improvements in performance and stability when updating drivers... especially at those experimental times when I'm saving / loading different configurations dozens of times for testing I/O.That would probably be my first action if something like that happened.

Mbox came with Digidesign CoreAudio Driver, and i checked with their site but there wasn't any updates since i bought it. only updates they have is software updates. awww.I tried few of the following and the noise has not come back (YET!) in the last few sessions.1. repair disk permission2. trash all of digi preferences and databases, volume ddb using Pro Tools Pref and Database Helper (free software and deletes all these unwanted folders and files.)3. PACE driver updateif the noise comes back, i have to think about dumping Pt and go with Logic

Yes i got Brickwall limiter recently. i never had any issues before that, since problems fixed in the beginning. is just something to do with Brickwall, and not other IK plug ins? before getting IK plugs, i didnt really have to trash digi prefs and volumes much.. i can live without Brickwall, so maybe i should remove it if the noise keeps happening.thanks for your help.
